Marissa Alexander is FREE!!! Free, free, free!! After three years incarcerated and two under house arrest, she is free! She was sentenced to 20 years in prison after she fired her legally registered firearm into the ceiling of her Jacksonville home to prevent a domestic violence attack. We hope she now finds peace and justice and can move forward with her life.

The Jacksonville woman jailed in 2012 for firing a warning shot at her abusive husband is now free. Marissa Alexander was sentenced to 20...

We can't stop talking about this new documentary by Ava DuVerney, an in-depth look at the prison system in the United States and how it reveals the nation's history of racial inequality...it's completely absorbing and devastating. Streaming on Netflix now...we recommend it!

Want to join the effort to ? Urge your community--and any campus, religious group, union, or organization you're involved with--to endorse this statement of support from Love & Protect: http://loveandprotect.org/bresha-meadows/

"The incarceration of Bresha Meadows serves no one. Bresha is not a threat to herself, family or community. Instead, it perpetuates the violence against Black women and girls that is inflicted at both the state and interpersonal levels every day. The state failed to protect Bresha. Now, it has chosen to criminalize her. In doing so, it also has chosen to exacerbate the suffering her family already has endured, as they now are separated from their daughter, sister, and niece and must prepare to defend Bresha’s life."

Bresha Meadows Solidarity with Bresha Meadows: A Statement from Love & Protect Fourteen-year-old Bresha Meadows of Ohio is incarcerated and facing a charge of aggravated murder for defending herself and family against the unrelenting terror and abuse of her father. We stand in solidarity with Bresha...

Hey all! Organizers in Charlotte need your help -- the actions there demonstrating against the police killing of Keith Lamont Scott are still going round the clock, with many arrests resulting from the demonstrations. Organizers are calling on folks to send support by donating to the bail fund here: http://durhamsolidaritycenter.org/bondfund/. It directly goes toward getting folks out of jail once arrested, prioritizing those whose families could not afford it. Donate if you can!

In the wake of the devastating Orlando attacks we came across this amazing resource for further discussion, education, and organizing made by teachers and librarians. Tools for the long haul work of building a culture where deadly homophobic and racist violence is no longer status quo.

This is a collaborative resource compiled by librarians and teachers. A short URL you can use to share it is: bit.ly/orlandosyllabus Please remember as you add resources that most of the victims are q***r, trans and gay folx and men of color-it was Latinx night at the bar- ...
