The Blue Card

The Blue Card Inspired by the courage of our ancestors, The Blue Card serves to provide Holocaust survivors and their families with financial assistance and genuine support.

Visit us at www.bluecardfund.org to learn more and make a donation! Of the 75,000 Holocaust survivors living in the United States, roughly 1/3 live below poverty level, a staggering figure. Many of our committee members, owe their very existence to relatives who survived the horrible atrocities of the N***s and the Shoah. Getting involved with The Blue Card is an amazing way to honor them and give back to those who are still living.

Today is International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression.

At The Blue Card, we know how traumatizing violence can be against young children. Many of our Holocaust survivor clients, and in fact most of the Holocaust survivors in the world today were children when the Holocaust took place. While we do not discount the strength and perseverance of these survivors, and their ability to create lives for themselves after what they endured, we would like to acknowledge the physical and mental toll this event had on them and their families.

Aggression and violence is never the answer. Join us in recognizing this day.

On June 2, 1942, the BBC broadcast that 700,000 Polish Jews had already been murdered by the N***s.

In May of 1942, The Polish-Jewish underground resistance was able to smuggle a report out of Poland that detailed not only the estimated number of Polish Jews that had been killed up to that point, but also how they were being killed. The report reached all the way to the Polish government in exile who were living in London, and beseeched the Allies to take action against the N***s.

On this day in 1942, the BBC broadcasted this report and the supposed number of Polish-Jewish deaths. Although the broadcast did not include the fact that the plan of extermination was already happening, and although the Allied governments did not immediately jump to action, the broadcast and further release of the report lead other newspapers and outlets to increase their own reporting on this matter.

Happy pride from The Blue Card!

Join us in celebrating the entire LGBTQIA+ community, and recognizing the hardship they have endured over time. Many victims of the Holocaust were targeted because they were homosexual, and were forced to endure things like hard labor, forced sterilization, and were even murdered for who they were.

Like the Jews, their strength is in survival, and we are proud to be supporters and allies of our LGBTQIA+ community!

Today is National Heat Awareness Day!

Hyperthermia and overheating should not be taken lightly. With recent heat waves and more hot days in store, all of us, especially older Holocaust survivors, need to take precautions to protect ourselves from the heat this summer.

Hyperthermia is an umbrella term for a group of medical afflictions caused by heat, such as heat rash, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke. Milder cases of these can cause dizziness, fainting, and headaches. Heat stroke, which is the most serious, can cause confusion, slurred speech, delirium, seizures, and can be life threatening if not treated right away.

Many Holocaust survivors live with age and trauma-related underlying medical conditions. Heat can exacerbate these conditions, and may make it harder to regulate body temperature. It is vital that we remind all of the Holocaust survivors in our communities to watch for signs of hyperthermia and follow these tips:
💧 Stay hydrated - drink plenty of water during the day
❄ Stay cool - if possible, use air conditioning or fans to help keep indoor spaces cool
👕 Wear light layers - light layers and materials like cotton and linen will help keep the body cool
🍉 Hydrating foods - foods like watermelon which are high in water content can help keep you hydrated if drinking water is difficult
👒 Sun protection - wearing hats and sunscreen to protect the skin from harmful UV rays

Happy Memorial Day from The Blue Card!

Today we'd like to honor all of the US troops who have fought and bravely risked their lives to defend this country, and sometimes even, those in need in other countries. World War II and the Holocaust had a detrimental effect on millions of people all over the globe. But because of the efforts of Allied soldiers, the N***s were finally defeated, the concentration camps liberated, and many more millions of lives were saved.

Join us today in thanking and celebrating our courageous soldiers!
