The OPBF Planting Seeds Project (PSP) was created to inspire global communities to launch programs and initiatives that focus on S.T.E.A.M. education and/or empower young girls, women, and mothers in local communities.

Through PSP, we proudly supported a toy drive for a local school in the Bronx, New York. Their goal is to collect 400 toys. This year, we donated S.T.E.A.M.-related gifts including the award-winning Thames & Kosmos Ooze Labs Chemistry Station Science Experiment Kits, Make Your Own Comic Book Storytelling Kits, Doctor Fashion Dolls, Mini Robot Walkie-Talkies, Play-Doh Arts and Crafts Sets, and the National Geographic Science Kit. The purchase of this kit directly contributes to the National Geographic Society’s global efforts in exploration, research, and education.

We hope these gifts ignite a lifelong curiosity in S.T.E.A.M. and empower students to envision themselves as future innovators, creators, scientists and problem-solvers.

In recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, November 25, 2025, the Movimiento Feminista Hermanas Mirabal, in collaboration with several organizations, held a series of events throughout the month in Santiago, R.D., including panel discussions and immersive activities. Omega Phi Beta Foundation is proud to sponsor these activities in the Dominican Republic.

Today’s event featured a photo exhibition highlighting women leaders who have made significant contributions to the promotion and defense of human rights. This year, Governor Rosa Santos, Manuela Vargas of the Núcleo de Apoyo a la Mujer, and Ivette Ramírez of Fundación Mujer Iglesia were honored.

Inspired by healing through the arts, MOVIDA (Movimiento Vida sin Violencia) hosted an event in Duarte Park, where participating organizations expressed themselves through painting, theater, spoken word, dance, and music. They highlighted that gender-based violence continues to account for more than 65% of all complaints in the justice system, yet the resources needed for prevention and support remain insufficient.

Movimiento Feminista Hermanas Mirabal’s mission is to raise awareness about violence against women, promote respect for women’s rights, and strengthen public policies that protect victims and the communities affected.

Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Throughout November, Omega Phi Beta Foundation sponsored events in the Dominican Republic.

Last night, Movimiento Feminista Hermanas Mirabal in collaboration with other organizations, held a panel “Voces libres por una vida sin violencia”. These discussions focused on resources that support women’s rights and raises awareness of violence against women.

On November 25, 1960, the Mirabal sisters were brutally assassinated because of their identity as women and activists. Their only crime was having fought for their rights against the Dominican dictator, Rafael Trujillo (1930-1961). In 1993, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 48/104 for the Elimination of Violence Against Women which defines this type of violence as “any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual, or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life.” Consequently, to solidify this decision, in 1999 the General Assembly proclaimed 25 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Be a Rising Bud Scholarship presented by Omega Phi Beta Foundation (OPBF)

Congratulations to Lavender Minseo An, who was selected to receive the 2024 Be a Rising Bud Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to high school seniors and/or college freshmen in pursuit of an undergraduate degree with a concentration in the Arts.

Lavender is passionate about Fine Arts. To her, Fine Arts was also a means of communication and self-discovery. “Art provided [Lavender] with a voice when words failed her and a sanctuary where she could be unapologetically herself.” She found her purpose in painting, sculpting, and sketching. Lavender positively impacted her community by contributing her talent to art exhibitions such as the Asian Student Alliance Youth Art Month Student Art Show. Through these exhibitions, Lavender “wanted to provide a platform for Asian American youth to showcase their talents while promoting inclusivity and cultural exchange among attendees of all backgrounds.”

Congratulations Lavender! We wish you much success as you pursue your Fine Arts degree. We hope you continue to thrive in telling your story through the arts. We hope you will succeed in all of your goals and passions. We are excited to witness your creative impact in our world.

STEM to Flowers Scholarship presented by Omega Phi Beta Foundation (OPBF)

Congratulations to Zaria Monaye Clemons, who was selected to receive the 2024 STEM to Flowers Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a high school senior and/or college freshman in pursuit of an undergraduate degree with a concentration in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)

Watching true crime documentaries fueled Zaria Monaye Clemons’s passion for the field of Forensics. She admires “scientists’ ability to take small pieces of evidence like a hair follicle to solve an entire case.” Zaria wants to help bring justice to communities worldwide while continuing to volunteer as a leader in our communities.

Zaria currently volunteers with the Tre’quan Smith Foundation, helping develop youth football players. She is also the Charity Chair for the Black Student Union at Suncoast Community High School. This position inspires her to help her community more. Zaria visited her childhood hospital, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, where she received 30+ surgeries. She was born with Hemangioma, a vascular birthmark made from extra blood cells in the skin. Doctors believed she wouldn’t be able to live past three, talk, or function as a “normal” child. Zaria’s parents taught her that she was capable of achieving anything she put her mind to. Zaria wrote a book about growing up with facial deformities. This inspired her and others to advocate and assist those in need. Zaria’s motto is “You will be great no matter the obstacles you face.”

Congratulations Zaria! We are inspired by your story and commitment to impact our communities worldwide. We wish you much success in the Forensics field! We admire your passion, bravery, and strength to achieve your endeavors. Good luck in your pursuits! You’ve got this!
