🍸 We broke records at last night’s 37th AAF Impact Awards at ! Thank you to our friends, supporters, allies, and community members who made this event a tremendous success. We are so grateful for your presence and your generosity as we build together a city where all Asian and immigrant New Yorkers can thrive.

💗 Our Courage Awardees Justin Go and his pro bono legal team of Judge Marilyn Go, Lawrence G. Wee, and Jennifer H. Wu have shown us what true bravery and resilience look like. We recognize Justin for his advocacy of mental health reform that makes our communities safer and that honors the values his daughter Michelle Go embodied. And we commend his pro bono legal team for their work to bring justice to victims of anti-Asian hate.

🗽 Our Leadership Awardee Hae-Lin Choi has built a mass movement mobilizing hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers in nonviolent resistance with . Hae-Lin is leading by example as an Asian woman and immigrant at the forefront of the immigrant rights movement, and we honor her trailblazing advocacy.

🎊 This past year has marked both change and challenges for Asian communities across New York. We have endured uncertainty, cuts to social services, threats to our safety and belonging, detentions and deportations, and much more. But at AAF, we have chosen action over fear, unity over division. We choose hope and community, and last night was a testament to the strength of Asian New York. Thank you!

It was our honor to host a convening yesterday between and nearly 40 of our partners, discussing the Mamdani administration’s economic justice agenda and how the deputy mayor will ensure that New York’s economic policies are informed by the lived experiences of Asian New Yorkers.

Deputy Mayor Su’s long career of advocating for workers, immigrants, and marginalized communities began at an Asian American nonprofit, which made this meeting with AAF members and partners all the more meaningful. We thank the deputy mayor for her time and for all the Asian organizations who shared their expertise and concerns for the communities we serve.

Introducing our 2026 AAF Impact Awards Courage Honorees: Justin Go and his pro bono legal team of Marilyn Go, Lawrence G. Wee, and Jennifer H. Wu.

Justin Go is the father of Michelle Go. Michelle’s death in 2022 reverberated deeply with Asian communities here in New York and all over the country as we endured anti-Asian violence during the pandemic, and her memory stays with us to this day. In honor of her life and the values she embodied, Justin has advocated the passage of the Michelle Alyssa Go Act. This landmark legislation aims to strengthen our mental health infrastructure to prevent future tragedies.

Alongside Justin, we recognize his dedicated legal team: Marilyn Go the first Asian American woman to serve as a federal judge (ret.), Lawrence G. Wee, Partner at Milbank LLP, and Jennifer H. Wu, Founding Partner at Groombridge, Wu, Baughman and Stone. This team is being honored for their outstanding pro bono service and commitment to seeking justice, providing vital legal support to the Go family and other victims of racially motivated violence.

Please join us in celebrating the courage of our awardees and their contributions to our communities at the AAF Impact Awards on April 22nd! Tickets 🎟️ are in our bio!

We are super proud to announce the launch of the United in Speech Co-op NY! This is the first worker co-op in the country for Asian language interpreters, and members are currently offering services in Arabic, Bangla, Cantonese, Korean, and Mandarin. 🗣️ If your organization needs language interpretation in these languages, you can request help from the United in Speech Co-op at bit.ly/United-in-Speech-Request (link in bio or swipe to the end for a QR code!) 💬

United in Speech Co-op was formed as part of an initiative of the Language Justice Collaborative to create interpreter worker co-ops for African, indigenous Latin American, and Asian languages—delivering both high-quality services and creating economic opportunities for community members who have long served as informal translators for family and friends. 43% of Asian New Yorkers are limited English proficient, making language access vital for hundreds of thousands, especially in legal, healthcare, and government settings.

This is just the beginning for the United in Speech Co-op and we hope to recruit more interpreters for more languages and expand services! Please reach out to the co-op for your interpretation needs at bit.ly/United-in-Speech-Request
