Collaboration is how we drive real solutions across New York City.

This partnership is the foundation of United for Benefits Access ( ), United Way of New York City’s new initiative to equip local community organizations with the training, technology, and outreach resources needed to help New Yorkers navigate new requirements and maintain critical and coverage.

Business Insider recently featured the story of 76-year-old Lisbon Black, a New Yorker that United Way of New York City supports through our network of community organizations.

Lisbon works part-time and receives a fixed Social Security income. Yet rising costs mean he still faces difficult choices between rent, groceries, and essential care. His experience is a powerful example of what it means to be —Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed.

ALICE New Yorkers are working and contributing every day, yet many still fall short of the true cost of living here. Places like the Broadway Community Soup Kitchen, supported by United Way of New York City, provide more than a meal to New Yorkers like Lisbon; they offer dignity, respect, and community.

United Way of New York City has officially kicked off the 2026 Resiliency Fellows Program!

The program was developed in partnership with New York Edge as part of our United We Prepare initiative created in collaboration with Verizon and United Way Worldwide.

We recently kicked off this program with an inspiring orientation in which we had the opportunity to meet this incredible group of young leaders.

This hands-on, paid fellowship gives students an opportunity to learn about emergency preparedness, climate resilience, leadership, and community engagement.

We can't wait to watch them grow into confident leaders and trusted voices in their communities.

Follow along this summer as our Resiliency Fellows learn, lead, and help build a more prepared and resilient New York City.

This is just the beginning.

This weekend, our CEO, Grace Bonilla, had the incredible honor of serving as Madrina de Honor (Honorary Godmother) of New York City's Ecuadorian Parade, marching alongside Mayor Mamdani to celebrate the culture, community, and the enduring contributions of Ecuadorians to the fabric of our city.

At United Way of New York City, we believe every New Yorker deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of where they were born or the language they speak. Celebrations like this remind us that building a stronger city begins with honoring the people and cultures that make it extraordinary.

Thank you to the Ecuadorian Civic Committee of New York for this incredible recognition and for preserving a tradition that continues to unite generations.

United Way of New York City has launched United for Benefits Access, a new comprehensive initiative to address the sweeping changes to SNAP and Medicaid introduced by H.R.1.

As part of our United for Benefits Access initiative (UBA), United Way of New York City will be convening leaders from government, community-based organizations, philanthropy, and the private sector to discuss how we can help New Yorkers maintain access to SNAP and Medicaid amidst the harmful changes introduced by H.R.1.

The convening is being held on Tuesday, July 28, at 1pm, in partnership with Trinity Church.

In Newsday, United Way of New York City President & CEO Grace C. Bonilla, Esq. and United Way of Long Island President & CEO Theresa Regnante write that easing the financial burden of utility bills is one meaningful way to make New York more affordable for working families.

“As leaders of United Way of Long Island and United Way of New York City, we know the affordability crises hitting our communities are not separate struggles. Energy costs are no small burden: We've heard stories of low-income families carrying overdue balances they simply can't dig out from, choosing between paying their utility bills versus rent or groceries.”

They highlight why National Grid's proposal to freeze gas rates for 1.9 million customers across Long Island, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island through March 2028 could provide meaningful relief at a time when 59% of working-age New Yorkers are struggling to make ends meet.

A rate freeze isn't a permanent solution, but it gives families, seniors on fixed incomes and small businesses valuable breathing room while helping prevent impossible choices between paying utility bills, rent, groceries and medication.

“No single organization can solve this challenge alone, but together we can invest in communities to ensure that every New Yorker can keep the lights on and move toward a more stable future.”

On Saturday, June 27th, Corona Plaza transformed into a celebration of community, culture, and climate action. 🌍 United Way New York City was proud to be part of this day alongside The Elmhurst Corona Resource Collaborative (ECRC), Commonpoint, Sisa Pakari, Resilient Cities Catalyst (RCC), and so many community partners who showed up to make it happen.

Families came together for an afternoon of traditional Ecuadorian dance performances by Sisa Pakari, live music from Banda Infantil Sisa Malki and Banda Sisa Taki, and honest conversations about the health challenges facing this neighborhood — extreme heat, mold, lead, flooding, and what it truly means to build resilience when your community is on the front lines of climate change.

This is what environmental justice looks like — not just policy, but people. Culture, education, and community, all in the same place.

Thank you to everyone who came out, performed, shared their knowledge, and made Corona Plaza feel like home. 🙏🌿

Our partnership with enabled the to host this beautiful day of connection, learning, and support. Welcoming more than 300 attendees— mothers, dads-to-be, and family members!

Our Connect2Care team brought five Community Baby Showers to all five boroughs — meeting new and expecting parents where they are, and connecting them to the care, resources, and community they deserve. Prioritizing those who face the greatest barriers to maternal care in New York City: Black and Latina households, first-time parents, and low-income and uninsured families. 👶🏽💙

Each event offered free health screenings, essential supplies, postpartum education, and care coordination — because supporting a healthy pregnancy means supporting the whole family.

This work is made possible through the New York State Department of Health, Worldwide's RUTA Grant, and the generosity of our board and donor community.

Every family deserves a healthy start. United Way of New York City is proud to help make that possible. 🌸
