Each year on August 9, we join communities around the world in observing the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. In 2026, the United Nations is holding its official commemorative event on August 10.

As we celebrate the knowledge, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples, we reaffirm their fundamental rights to dignity, self-determination, and full and meaningful participation in decisions affecting their communities. Indigenous Peoples have the right to determine how their knowledge, traditions, and cultural expressions are preserved, practiced, represented, and shared.

Among the Tboli people of South Cotabato in Mindanao, cultural heritage is sustained across generations through weaving, music, dance, oral traditions, customary knowledge, and enduring relationships with community and ancestral lands. Honoring the Tboli means not only celebrating these traditions, but also respecting the people who sustain them, the cultural protocols that protect them, and their authority over their own heritage.

The sun shone mightily upon a beautiful picnic day, as though bestowing its blessing upon our gathering.

We are grateful to have spent the afternoon with the Filipino American community here in the Hudson Valley, reconnecting with familiar faces and meeting new friends, including visitors from Pennsylvania.

One of our greatest joys is watching young Filipino Americans discover Tboli arts and crafts for the very first time. Their curiosity, excitement, and genuine wonder remind us that every conversation and every shared story helps keep our cultural heritage alive for the next generation. ♥️

We are still on a high from marching in the Filipino Day Grand Parade 2026! It was an absolute honor to celebrate Filipino pride, culture, and community alongside so many beautiful faces.

This year’s theme, Rooted. Rising. Reclaiming., truly came to life through the vibrant energy, stunning traditional attires, and the powerful sense of unity filling the streets. Seeing our heritage take up space so vibrantly in the heart of the city reminded us that no matter how far we journey, our roots remain our greatest strength and our anchor. Thank you to Kalayaan 1521 Council, Inc. for hosting such a memorable celebration and bringing us all together to honor our shared culture! 🇵🇭✨

To the hands that packed the boxes, the drivers who navigated broken mountain roads, and the team who brought hope to families facing their hardest days—B**g Slamat. 🕊️❤️

Behind every single food pack delivered to Barangay Tasiman and Barangay T’konel, there is a volunteer who chose to show up. When the earthquake hit, the crisis was overwhelming, but this incredible crew didn’t hesitate. They left their own comfort behind to ensure 300 T'boli and Ubo families knew they weren't alone.

We want to give a massive, heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this relief drive a reality:

When we shared how bad things were in Lake Sebu, we hoped to bring a little comfort. But because of this community, our local partners, and a timely grant from the BLISS Foundation, we were able to bring true, life-saving relief. Together, we raised nearly $3,500.

Because you didn't look away, our teams were able to load up trucks, navigate broken mountain roads, and bring immediate help straight to 300 families who needed it most.

Here is what your love did on the ground:

We brought heavy emergency food packs loaded with rice, canned goods, and clean drinking water directly into some of the most isolated areas—places like Barangay Tasiman and five different sitios in Barangay T’konel (Botunggal, Tenu-os, Kings, Tboong, and Nef) that are usually completely cut off from mainstream aid. For families living even deeper in the mountains, we provided transportation and cash assistance so they could safely travel down to reach the supplies.

As our team handed out the supplies, the phrase echoing through the mountains was "B**g Slamat"—thank you. That thank you belongs to every single one of you. You made sure these families knew they were not forgotten in the dark.

But with over 5,800 people affected, the road ahead is long, and the aftershocks are still happening. We are keeping our relief operations going to reach the communities still waiting for help.

Together, we are providing emergency relief to 300 families affected by the Mindanao earthquake.

Our team is currently delivering food packs to remote communities across Lake Sebu, including areas that are difficult to reach.
