As we celebrates # National Arts in Education Week (September 13-19, 2026), the National Coalition for Arts Standards (NCAS) is now recruiting volunteers to serve as Writing Team Members (up to 12 per discipline) and Discipline Leads (one each for Dance, Media Arts, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts) in the National Arts Standards review and revision process.

YA’s EASE is building momentum for arts-integrated STEM learning! The 2025–26 school year marked an important year for Educational Advancement through STEM Engagement (EASE), a national initiative of Young Audiences Arts for Learning, in partnership with YA affiliates ArtsNOW and Young Audiences of Louisiana.

In its first year, EASE schools were building the foundations for sustained arts integration in math and science. Teachers received professional learning and coaching, and teacher leaders developed and piloted arts-integrated lessons in their own classrooms.

Participants reported:
☀️ Increased student engagement
☀️Stronger content retention
☀️More opportunities for students to demonstrate learning through the arts
☀️ Greater enjoyment in teaching and learning

Early data shows just how important this work is:
☀️ 94% of participating math and science teachers agreed that their school leaders support their efforts to use arts integration.
☀️ 73% agreed they were more likely to remain in teaching if they could use engaging arts-integrated strategies.

We are very pleased to announce the newest Nationally Credentialed YA Teaching Artists, hailing from 15 affiliates across the national Young Audiences Arts for Learning (YA) network! ☀️

YA’s Teaching Artist Credential (TAC) is a national initiative that articulates what high-quality arts-based instruction looks like in K-12 school-based residencies and formally endorses teaching artists who embody excellence in four competency areas: Artistry, Instruction, Preparation & Planning, and Community.

Following a rigorous application and adjudication process, 27 outstanding teaching artists have earned the credential during the 2025-2026 TAC application cycle.

The National Coalition for Arts Standards (NCAS), which includes Young Audiences Arts for Learning, is excited to introduce Janine Campbell as its new Standards Review Project Manager! As the central coordinator for the full National Arts Standards Review across arts disciplines (Dance, Media Arts, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts), Janine will work with NCAS to helm the multi-year review and revision process.
Janine brings more than twenty years of experience in arts education, with an extensive background in standards and assessment development as well as demonstrated success leading complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives at the local, state, and national levels.
During National Arts in Education Week (September 13-19, 2026), NCAS looks forward to announcing an important next step in the National Arts Standards Review process, including opportunities for members of the field to get involved. Please stay tuned for details.

We are proud to share that Young Audiences Arts for Learning (YA) and four YA affiliates have been selected as recipients of grants totaling nearly $200,000 combined! Congrats to Arts For Learning CT 🎨🎼🎭, Arts for Learning Massachusetts, Chicago Arts Partnerships in Education (CAPE), and Young Audiences of Houston!

Young Audiences Arts for Learning (YA National Office) – New York, NY: To support Arts-Related Teaching for Integrated Student Well-being (ARTIST), a national professional development initiative for emerging teaching artists.

Arts for Learning Connecticut – Hamden, CT: To support the organization’s Higher Order Thinking (HOT) Schools Program, which provides professional development for teachers, administrators, and teaching artists in arts-integrated teaching and learning strategies.

Arts for Learning Massachusetts – Boston, MA: To support Expanding Horizons through Music, an early childhood literacy and music initiative serving under-resourced communities in the greater Boston area.

Chicago Arts Partnerships in Education (CAPE) – Chicago, IL: To support an arts integration professional development program supporting teachers and teaching artists serving Chicago Public Schools, with a focus on schools in under-resourced neighborhoods.

Young Audiences of Houston – Houston, TX: To support an arts integration initiative serving students, educators, and families in rural Texas through artist residencies and community performances connected to Texas and U.S. history.

5/5: In the end, RAISE is about more than arts education; it’s about creating environments where people feel connected, supported, safe, and inspired. Where students, educators, and families all feel like they belong and are part of something impactful and meaningful.

Ultimately, the exhibits, performances, and art pieces, they just become beautiful byproducts of this wonderful program. ☀️ 💫

Part 4/5: Arts for Learning Santa Cruz County RAISE Spotlight ☀️

RAISE also means supporting the adults, too. Teaching Artists receive ongoing coaching and training in arts integration, while school staff take part in professional learning. These opportunities, led by RAISE staff, encourage that arts education.

Families are included as well, joining in learning sessions where they can connect with their children and with each other. It becomes a shared experience where everyone is learning, growing, and contributing together. ✨

A big part of RAISE is making sure students feel seen, valued, and understood. Everything is designed with a trauma-informed and cultural-responsive approach, so students’ backgrounds, experiences, and identities are honored.

At its heart, RAISE is about working together. Teaching Artists don’t just come in as visitors; they become part of the school community.
