Last week we presented ORDINARY GIRLS in our Developmental Reading Series at Ripley Grier! The musical follows three teenage girls in 1939 as they are recruited by the Dutch underground resistance to fight the N**i occupation.

ORDINARY GIRLS has book and lyrics by Elin Hampton with original music by Luke Wygodny. The cast featured two-time Tony nominee Alison Fraser, Alyssa Marvin, Alex Prakken, Alex Branton, Erica Spyres, Morgan Morse, Olivia Castanho, and Jacqueline Emerson. The reading was directed by Gabriel Barre with music direction by Jacob Fjeldheim.

Calling all theater directors! Applications are now open for The York Theatre's 2026 Micki Grant Artist-in-Residence Program.

This year's residency will provide an emerging director with the opportunity to work alongside York artists and staff, observe the development of a new musical, receive mentorship from industry leaders, and gain invaluable professional experience. The selected resident will also receive a $3,500 stipend and the opportunity to direct a York-produced concert celebrating the work of Micki Grant.

Applications for our Micki Grant Artist-in-Residence Program will open on Monday, June 15th

We are seeking emerging directors with a passion for musical theatre and a strong artistic voice. Applicants should be eager collaborators interested in expanding their experience through mentorship, observation, and hands-on leadership opportunities. The selected resident will receive a $3,500 stipend and the opportunity to direct a York-produced concert celebrating the work of Micki Grant.

This week we presented “The Ho-Ho Ho-liday Show” in our Developmental Reading Series at Ripley Grier! The comedy r***e of sketches and parody songs by playwright Alice Scovell was directed by Owen Thompson with music direction by Analise Levesque.

The cast featured Erin Davie (Diana), Jennifer Sánchez (Real Women Have Curves), and Tony nominee A.J. Shively (Paradise Square).

Congratulations to all of the nominees and winners of the 2026 Tony Awards! Last night’s celebration was a reminder of the extraordinary talent, creativity and passion that make Broadway and the entire theater community so special. We applaud every artist and theater professional whose work was recognized this season. As the curtain comes down on GOTTA DANCE at Stage 42, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to the entire company on a wonderful run! We were proud to present this dazzling r***e on our stage last season which celebrates the iconic choreography that has defined Broadway and Hollywood for generations. It has been a joy to see the production continue to delight audiences and honor the artistry of dance. Bravo to the cast, creative team and crew!

On this day in 2012, we launched the first New York revival of CLOSER THAN EVER, featuring lyrics by Richard Maltby, Jr. and music by David Shire. The production starred Jenn Colella, George Dvorsky, Christiane Noll, and Sal Viviano, and went on to win the 2012–2013 Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best Musical Revival. Following multiple extensions, the cast later welcomed Julia Murney, Jacquelyn Piro Donovan, Anika Larsen, James Moye, and Marya Grandy. Jay Records released a cast recording of the production in 2013.

We're excited to host two invitation-only developmental readings this June!

The first, "The Ho- Ho- Ho-liday Show", a comedy r***e of sketches and parody songs by playwright Alice Scovell, will be held on June 8. Directed by Owen Thompson, the reading will star Erin Davie ("Diana"), Jennifer Sánchez ("Real Women Have Curves"), and Tony nominee A.J. Shively ("Paradise Square"). Analise Levesque will serve as music director.

The second, "Ordinary Girls", follows three teenage girls in 1939 as they are recruited by the Dutch underground resistance to fight the N**i occupation. With book and lyrics by Elin Hampton, the readings will be directed by Gabriel Barre. Held on June 11 and June 12, it will star two-time Tony nominee Alison Fraser ("The Secret Garden", "Romance/Romance"), Alyssa Marvin ("Appropriate", "Grey House"), Alex Prakken ("The Great Gatsby"), Billy Cohen ("Ragtime"), Erikka Makic ("Once"), Morgan Morse ("Southern Comfort"), Olivia Castanho, and Jacqueline Emerson ("The Hunger Games").

The industry readings will be held this June.
