We're filled with excitement that we've made the Top 10 Finalists! 🌍🎉

The Slum2School Green Academy has been named a Top 10 Finalist for the World’s Best School Prize for Environmental Action!

Built to demonstrate what is possible when education, innovation and sustainability come together, the Slum2School Green Academy provides completely free, quality education to over 200 children from remote riverine communities across Epe, Lagos State.

From solar-powered learning spaces and rainwater harvesting to sustainable infrastructure built with bamboo and thatch roof, technology-enabled classrooms, community gardens and hands-on environmental learning, the Academy is reimagining what education can look like for children who might otherwise be left behind.

While this is a great win for us and our incredible learners, we eagerly look forward to the final announcement in November and the opportunity to create even greater impact if we win the ultimate prize! 💚🌍

Many thanks to our partners, volunteers, teachers and everyone who has made this possible.

Join us in celebrating this achievement by sharing and supporting our work via www.slum2school.org/greenacademy. Link in our bio 🏅💚

Every summer, hundreds of children and young people from underserved communities participate in the Slum2School Summer Learning Program, where they build skills across leadership, STEM, digital literacy, entrepreneurship, the arts, environmental sustainability, music, fashion, literacy and other future-ready disciplines.

Last year, we were honored to welcome the leadership of the Harvard University Center for African Studies, Harvard Center for African Studies led by Professor Zoe Marks, Faculty Director, alongside Sirak Kurban, Communications Director.

Their visit offered an opportunity to engage with our learners, experience our innovative learning spaces firsthand, and witness the impact of community-driven education in action.

Moments like these remind us that transforming education is a collective effort.
This year’s Summer Learning Program promises to be even bigger, more immersive, and more impactful, with exciting new experiences, inspiring facilitators, and life-changing opportunities for every learner.

If you’d like to join us as a partner, volunteer, trainer, mentor, or teacher, we’d love to hear from you. Reach out to us at [email protected] and help us shape a brighter future - one child at a time.

Legendary Nollywood icon Omotola Jalade Ekeinde,MFR has pledged to donate 100% of the proceeds from the cinema run of her award-winning film Mother’s Love to Slum2School Africa, in support of expanding access to education for children in underserved communities.

After more than three decades as one of Nollywood’s most celebrated figures, Mother’s Love marks Dr. Omotola’s first film as a Director- and she has chosen to dedicate its impact to advancing educational opportunities for children.

Parts of the film were brought to life with the support of Slum2School Africa, with scenes filmed in our learning spaces and with participation from members of the Makoko community, whose stories helped shape the heart of the film.

We are deeply grateful for this remarkable act of generosity and for the powerful reminder that storytelling can also transform lives.

🎬 Mother’s Love is now showing in cinemas across Nigeria.

Happy 14th Anniversary, Slum2School Africa. 🎊🎉🎂

Fourteen years ago, a handful of bold, selfless young people chose to believe that every child irrespective of where they lived deserved more. From 2012 to 2016, our early volunteers walked dusty streets, crossed waters, gave their weekends, their skills, and their hearts - not for applause, but for impact.

We will be celebrating dozens of them this year and ask that you tag as many as you can remember and appreciate their service and the seed they planted.

Today, that seed has grown into a movement that has reached hundreds of thousands of children. What began as volunteer passion is now a thriving ecosystem of thousands of educators, partners, staff, and leaders shaping futures across communities. And we are not slowing down.

As we celebrate 14 years of Slum2School Africa, we also begin the official countdown to our 15th - a milestone year that will mark the launch of several bold, transformative initiatives that will redefine our scale, deepen our outcomes, and strengthen our legacy.

To our pioneer volunteers, staff and leadership team: you built the foundation.
To our present volunteers, partners, staff and leadership team: you are driving the next wave of impact.

The story is still being written. The mission is stronger than ever. And the next chapter will be even more significant.

Happy 14th Anniversary, Slum2School Africa. The best is ahead. 🌍📚

We are incredibly proud to share that our Founder, Mr. Otto Orondaam, has been invited to deliver the 56th Convocation Lecture of the University of Lagos.

This is more than an honor. It is a powerful moment for education, advocacy, and the millions of children whose futures depend on the choices we make today.

His lecture, “Maximizing Nigeria’s Demographic Dividend through Urgent Education Reform,” reflects the very heart of our mission at Slum2School: transforming access to education from charity to national investment.

As he takes this message to one of Nigeria’s most respected academic stages, we wish him clarity, courage, and strength. May his words inspire policy, awaken responsibility, and move us closer to an education system that truly serves every child.
