Protecting Israel's Blue Half starts here.

Through SPNI's Blue Half marine conservation program, Sea Watch empowers anyone who cares about the sea to report hazards and help protect Israel's marine ecosystems.

This ghost net was reported through the Sea Watch app and removed from the Mediterranean before it could cause further harm to marine life. ๐Ÿข๐ŸŒŠ

A 50-meter abandoned fishing net was found north of Sidna Ali Beach with a dead loggerhead sea turtle and groupers trapped inside; divers removed it after a complex operation, while another ghost net was spotted nearby

Join us on Monday, June 29, for a magical sunset nature walk along the Yarkon River as Tel Aviv slowly winds down for the evening. ๐ŸŒ‡

As the sky changes colors, weโ€™ll explore the lush riverbanks to watch birds gathering to roost for the night, spot bats taking flight for their nightly hunt, and see urban nature completely come alive at twilight. Itโ€™s the perfect, refreshing mid-week escape right in your backyard.

๐ŸŒˆ Happy Pride Month!

Did you think gender and s*xual diversity exists only among humans? Nature tells a different story.

๐Ÿฆˆ Groupers begin their lives as females, and some later change s*x and become males.

๐Ÿฌ Among dolphins, social and s*xual relationships have been documented between both males and females, helping strengthen social bonds and alliances.

๐Ÿฆฉ In some bird species, same-s*x pairs have been observed cooperating in nest building and raising offspring.

๐ŸŒบ And many flowers, including anemones and Persian tulips, contain both male and female reproductive organs within the same flower.

As research continues to deepen, we discover again and again that diversity in nature is far broader and more fascinating than many people realize!

This Pride Month, we're celebrating the remarkable diversity found throughout nature ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿ‘€ Ever wonder how conservationists study wildlife without disturbing it?

Our live nature cameras offer a real-time window into some of Israel's most endangered and elusive speciesโ€”from nesting Griffon Vultures and Eagle-Owls to the extraordinary coral reefs of Eilat.

These livestreams do more than connect us with nature. They help researchers monitor wildlife behavior, detect threats, collect critical scientific data, and inform conservation efforts that protect these species for generations to come.

Our nature livestreams offer a real-time look at some of Israelโ€™s most endangered and reclusive species. These projects help researchers and conservationists uncover previous unknown behaviors of Israeli birds and marine species so we can better protect them.

This World Ocean Day, dive into the Red Sea ๐Ÿชธ

While coral reefs worldwide face severe threats from rising sea temperatures, the Red Sea reefs in Eilat are showing a rare, inspiring resilience. They are surviving โ€“ and thriving โ€“ acting as a sanctuary of hope for marine scientists globally.

To help study and protect this extraordinary ecosystem, SPNI's new underwater live streaming cameras are broadcasting 24/7 directly from the ocean floor.

Why this matters for conservation:
๐Ÿ  Real-time data: Our biologists can monitor animal interactions across seven unique habitats, including seagrass beds and deep underwater canyons.
๐Ÿ  Safeguarding species: This footage helps track over 1,000 marine species and adds a vital layer of defense against local coastal threats.

But beyond the science, the live stream is is a fascinating window into another world. At any given moment, you can get a live look at the daily rhythm of the reef right from your screen. Whether you spot vibrant coral gardens, sea turtles, or a curious octopus checking out the lens, you never quite know what you'll see in real-time.

This World Ocean Day, skip the pre-recorded clips and connect directly with a thriving, resilient underwater sanctuary.

๐Ÿฆ A major win for wildlife protection in Israel.

Today, the Knesset approved a new order allowing for significantly stronger penalties for wildlife trafficking and the illegal trade of protected species.

Wildlife trafficking is one of the world's largest criminal industries, generating billions of dollars each year while harming animals, threatening biodiversity, spreading disease, and funding criminal organizations.

Until now, those convicted of illegally trading protected wildlife in Israel faced a maximum sentence of just one year in prison. The new order gives authorities stronger tools to enforce the law and deter future offenses.

This important step will help protect wildlife, safeguard ecosystems, and strengthen efforts to combat illegal trafficking.

๐Ÿ’š We are grateful to Justice Minister Yariv Levin, Tal Gilboa, MKs Yasmin Fridman and Dr. Moti Sarfati Harcavi, the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, Let the Animals Live, Tel Aviv University's Environmental Justice and Animal Rights Clinic, Green Course, Life & Environment, the dedicated teams across the Knesset and government, and of course the professionals at the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI), who helped make this important achievement possible.
