Every day, peacekeepers from around the world patrol to monitor security conditions, prevent tensions and help advance peace.

🇺🇾 peacekeepers serving with UNDOF continue to establish temporary observation posts and conduct patrol activities throughout the Area of Separation in support of the Mission's mandate.

These activities strengthen situational awareness, enhance the Mission's ability to observe and report on developments on the ground, and contribute to the maintenance of stability and security within the area of operations.

Through continuous monitoring, timely reporting, and sustained operational readiness, peacekeepers remain committed to supporting the implementation of the Disengagement of Forces Agreement.

MONUSCO, the UN peacekeeping mission in the 🇨🇩, supports humanitarian partners through its protection efforts in and around displacement sites.

In Ituri Province's Bule, over the past eight months, the United Nations Mission in the DR Congo - Monusco has maintained a strong presence and increased patrols to help protect approximately 60,000 displaced people.

The United Nations Mission is also helping provide a secure environment for humanitarian workers responding to the ongoing outbreak. MONUSCO recently established a standing military presence in Nia-Nia to support Ebola response teams operating in the area.

In neighbouring Fataki, following threats against Ebola-response medical personnel, the Mission engaged local community leaders to encourage timely information sharing and enable swift response by national security forces.

Indian 🇮🇳 Blue helmets serving with the peacekeeping mission in Abyei, United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei, continue their commitment to providing assistance to internally displaced persons.

Earlier this year, thousands of civilians, mostly women and children, were displaced from Abiemnhom, 🇸🇸, and are currently seeking shelter in .

The Mission's support includes provision of basic needs, educational initiatives and community engagement.

Through sustained patrolling, area domination, presence in sensitive locations, and effective force protection measures, the has contributed to security within its Area of Responsibility.

En 🇨🇩, d’anciens combattants démobilisés participent activement aux efforts de sensibilisation contre la maladie à virus .

À Tchomia, en Ituri, une trentaine de mobilisateurs communautaires sont engagés dans les activités de prévention et de lutte contre Ebola, dont 27 anciens combattants démobilisés bénéficiaires du Programme de désarmement, démobilisation, relèvement communautaire et stabilisation.

Depuis leur formation spécialisée, les mobilisateurs parcourent plusieurs lieux à forte affluence afin d’informer les populations sur les risques liés à Ebola et de promouvoir les comportements susceptibles de limiter la propagation de la maladie.

La mission de maintien de la paix en RDC, la United Nations Mission in the DR Congo - Monusco, soutient cette initiative qui a été mise en œuvre par l’ONG Hope for Peace and Development et le Réseau des Associations pour le Développement Durable.

The review calls for a reset in how we think about and use peace operations, including a sharper focus on peacemaking, stronger partnerships with host States, adaptable mandates and more agile operations.

The future of United Nations peace operations is at a turning point.

Today, UN Secretary-General António Guterres presented to the General Assembly his report on the review of the future of all forms of UN peace operations, including peacekeeping operations and special political missions.

The review calls for a reset in how we think about the use of peace operations, including a sharper focus on peacemaking, stronger partnerships with host States, focused and adaptable mandates, and more agile operations.

“UN peace operations are indispensable tools for maintaining international peace and security, but to be more effective, they must adapt to new realities,” Mr. Guterres said.

UN peace operations need to adapt to today's world, as we face the highest number of conflicts since 1945.

This is the environment in which UN peace operations now operate, and why they must adapt to a changing conflict landscape, financial constraints and geopolitical realities.

In the aftermath of Monday's attack on a United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) joint patrol in Jonglei State, the peacekeeping mission deployed a quick reaction force by road and evacuated the injured by air.

The seven injured include three Ethiopian peacekeepers, two UNMISS civilian staff and two National Police Service personnel. All are receiving the medical attention they need and are currently stable. The attack killed two Ethiopian peacekeepers.

"I'm deeply saddened by the death of two Ethiopian peacekeepers. My heartfelt condolences to their families and the Government of . Wishing all those injured a swift and full recovery," said UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix.

Mr. Lacroix also echoed the Secretary-General's condemnation of the attack. In his message, the Secretary-General stressed that attacks against United Nations peacekeepers may constitute war crimes.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemns in the strongest possible terms Monday’s ambush by unidentified armed individuals on a United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) patrol in Jonglei State.

Two Ethiopian peacekeepers were killed in the attack, while seven others were injured, including three Ethiopian peacekeepers, two South Sudan National Police Service personnel and two UNMISS civilian staff. The Secretary-General expresses his deep condolences to the families of those killed and to their respective Governments and wishes all those injured a swift and full recovery.

The Secretary-General reminds that attacks against United Nations peacekeepers may constitute war crimes. All attacks on peacekeepers must be promptly investigated, and those responsible must be effectively prosecuted and held accountable.

The Secretary-General reaffirms the United Nations’ commitment to stand with the victims and their families during this profoundly difficult time.
