DirectWomen mourns the loss of trailblazer Sandra Day O'Connor today at 93. The first woman on the U.S. Supreme Court, Justice O'Connor was often referred to as the most powerful woman in America, with the Supreme Court frequently called the O'Connor court during her tenure.

DirectWomen's annual Luncheon is named in honor of the late Justice O'Connor, and DirectWomen has been pleased to present the Sandra Day O'Connor Board Excellence Award to 40 women lawyers since 2007. These women exemplify the manner in which Sandra Day O'Connor led her life, paving new paths for the women who came after her.

DirectWomen will continue to honor Justice O'Connor's tremendous life and legacy for many years to come, including at the 2024 Sandra Day O'Connor Board Excellence Award Luncheon in New York on Friday, October 18, 2024.

During a crucial period in American law — when abortion, affirmative action, s*x discrimination and voting rights were on the docket — she was the most powerful woman in the country.
