From France to Wisconsin! 🧀✨ Meet Solenne, who just wrapped up an incredible 6-month Engineering Science internship in Madison.
Between conquering complex engineering concepts, exploring Wisconsin’s famous landscapes, and tasting local cheese, Solenne truly made the most of her U.S. exchange experience. Here is what she had to say about her journey:
On Growth & Professional Development:
"The aspect of my internship that [went] particularly well is the relationship I share with my supervisor. He is supportive and actively guides me through various tasks, which has significantly boosted my confidence... I was able to grow in an environment where I learned a lot and became more independent."
On Community & Culture:
"What stands out most to me about this program in the U.S. are the people I met. I did my program in Wisconsin (a region known for its warm and friendly residents), and I can confirm that the reputation is well-deserved. The people are welcoming and cheerful, and I experienced a real sense of camaraderie. As a Frenchwoman who loves cheese, I also got to experience some of what the “Dairy Land of America” had to offer, and I wasn’t disappointed. I also got to attend lots of local events, such as music and dance festivals, and discover traditions like tailgating before a baseball game."
On Future Impact:
"I would recommend a J-1 program because it's a great way to explore another country, meet people, and gain work experience abroad. In the future, I may want to work abroad, so the proficiency in English I gained during this program is a major asset. I also learned how to adapt quickly to an unfamiliar environment in a short amount of time. On a more personal note, I also learned to have confidence in myself and my abilities."
