Please consider recommending Malecare for nomination for the Gay and Le***an Medical Association's achievement award. Click here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HPYLXRB

Malecare is the nonprofit organization that started the world's first gay men and prostate cancer support group, back in 1998. These groups have replicated throughout the world. Malecare is also the nonprofit promoting the very first peer-reviewed research regarding gay men and prostate cancer and is now a co-recipient of an NIH/NCI funding for the world's first clinical trial for gay men and prostate cancer. Please help to recognize Malecare's brilliant twenty-year history of innovation and service to our community.

Please take time to fill out the nomination at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HPYLXRB More information about Malecare can be found at https://malecare.org

Here's some more information about Malecare:

Founded in 1997, Malecare is the first nonprofit organization to describe LGBT psycho-oncology as a field of study. Since then, Malecare leadership has authored over thirty peer-reviewed papers and has helped in LGBT cancer patient accrual on twelve clinical trials and research projects. Malecare strongly advocates for LGBT patient inclusion to the pharmaceutical industry and has rejected numerous grants for projects that do not have LGBT patient inclusion criteria or efforts. Malecare created the world’s first gay men’s cancer support group and has helped nonprofits around the globe replicate our psycho-oncology support model. In 2005, Malecare created the National LGBT Cancer Project, the world’s first LGBT cancer patient support and advocacy national nonprofit. We’ve helped nonprofits around the globe replicate and implement National LGBT Cancer Project programs. Malecare has been particularly influential in helping gay African American men navigate cancer treatment.

Malecare’s leadership has presented Gay men and prostate cancer educational talks at numerous hospital grand rounds and cancer conferences such as the American Society of Clinical Oncology annual meeting.

Malecare support groups include HIV/AIDS patients dual diagnosed with a variety of cancer types.

Malecare produced public lecture series promoting Gay and Le***an urologists, including one occurring this coming June 19, 2019, in NYC and a major national conference on October 5, 2019.

In 2005, Malecare created the National LGBT Cancer Project world’s first LGBT cancer patient advocacy nonprofit. The National LGBT Cancer Project helped mandate equal hospital visitation rights for gay couples throughout the USA, as one of the founders of the Committee for Fair Visitation Rights in Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Malecare is a pioneer in building awareness and help and has helped improve longevity and quality of life for tens of thousands of gay men diagnosed with prostate cancer.

The Restore Study – a clinical trial for gay and bis*xual men with prostate cancer who wish to restore their erections and/or urine control.

An NIH/NCI funded clinical trial conducted by researchers from Malecare and the University of Minnesota. YOU CAN LIVE ANYWHERE IN THE USA TO PARTICIPATE. The "materials" are sent to you and follow-up is done remotely.

Doctors don’t know what will work for gay and bis*xual with prostate cancer, because there are no evidence based studies. Our study will change that.

Three ways we’re improving prostate cancer treatment for gay and bis*xual men:

1. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among gay, bis*xual, and other men who have s*x with men (MsM) with documented disparities, yet it suffers a poverty of research. There are 614 studies focused on heteros*xual men but their findings may not generalize to gay and bis*xual men with prostate cancer. We have created an evidence-based study to understand best practices with the gay and bis*xual patients.

2. We are studying a new MsM focused rehabilitation program including both urinary and s*xual function.

3. Most prostate cancer studies have focused on men recently treated for prostate cancer. We’re studying men from a broad treatment timeline.

Our randomized control trial will identify whether a structured rehabilitation program is effective in addressing the major s*xual and urinary problems caused by prostate cancer treatment. We hope our study will improve s*xual and urinary rehabilitation for MsM with prostate cancer by creating an evidence based set of interventions.

The RESTORE study is open to United States residents who are Gay, Bis*xual or other men who have s*x with men and have been treated for prostate cancer. These men are having difficulty with urinary and or s*xual functioning.

If you match these criteria and would consider being part of the study, please sign up at https://malecare.org/restore . We’ll be in touch with you by late April, 2019. Please help by spreading word about this first-of-its-kind clinical trial for our community.

We are starting a 24 month, randomized controlled trial of structured rehabilitation versus routine care. We’ll study recently treated (last 2 years) and post-treatment (2+ years), using a stratified design.
