REMINDER: The Center is CLOSED for the holiday Monday Oct. 12 and for the rest of the week. We'll be back to more great programming on Monday October 19 -- like last week's concert.

Members of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra played a beautiful concert for members last week. They even brought along song sheets and inspired a sing-along to "New York New York".

Multi-talented Columbia University Occupational Therapy interns Emily and Cynthia are in on Wednesdays. They lead exercises, art sessions, and they also wrote an article for our newsletter on Fall Prevention (it's on our blog, https://www.nymemorycenter.org/blog). The art project involved making "passports" and talking about what countries members had visited or would like to visit.

Occupational Therapy interns Emily and Cynthia remind caregivers about the higher risk of falls for older adults with memory loss and steps to prevent accidents. The article is in our latest newsletter and on our blog.

People living with dementia are at increased risk of falls, and while fall risk cannot be completely eliminated, many environmental, medical, and safety precautions can help prevent falls.

Memory Center Artist-in-Residence Ismail Butera got dancers up on their feet with "Jambalaya" and singing along with "Your Cheating Heart" and lots more familiar songs. Yesterday Babs, with The Jewish Museum arts education program, brought two samples of artwork from the museum. She talked about the artists and history of the work. Then members get a chance to create their own work, copying the style or colors or drawing whatever they choose. She even brings along some music to listen to while the artists let their creative juices flow.
