In 2004 after reading a passage from the Penelope Chapter at Ulysses New York, for Colum McCann's new Bloomsday Celebration, I spent the following 20 years working tirelessly to decipher Molly’s soliloquy, creating a full length audio album, along the way with my late father, the beloved Paddy Moloney (founder and leader of The Chieftains) who created a gorgeous and dedicate music sound track to compliment the play that was brewing. In 2019, after partnering with Colum McCann, the script fully emerged as YES Reflections of Molly Bloom and was premiered by The Irish Repertory Theatre. My interpretation is a unique and ground breaking perspective on Joyces indomitable character and I was deeply, deeply grateful when I won some pretty heavy hitting theatre awards in 2019. In 2020 I created a completely different and reimagined perspective with an on screen performance of the play for The Rep, which was heralded as "Best Theatre 2021", by The Wall Street Journal. In 2022, I reshaped the play once more for performances at the world renowned Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris, followed swiftly by yet another new and wonderful production at the Irish Rep.
And finally I produced a successful Irish tour of the play in 2023, this time staged and choreographed by myself.
This year, will be the first time I am back at Ulysses and it’s kind of a big deal for me. So, dear friends, I know if you blink you might miss me on the posters line up, but I promise I will be there, with bells on! It's been a bumpy year, so please show me a little love and come down to Stone Street. Join me in celebrating the 21st Anniversary of Colum McCann’s wonderful annual Bloomsday Celebration, with readings and songs from a diverse and madcap group of friends, who have been participating for as long as meself. In pariticular, Larry Kirwan's memorable and hilarious “Gertie." Come laugh, cry, sing, eat oysters and drink a few pints with our lovely hosts at Ulysses. Join us in celebrating James Joyce and his masterpiece.
See you on June 16th!
