| Hill Farm by Ellen Hamilton

Located in rural Connecticut, this home— designed by New York-based decorator Ellen Hamilton— is an homage to tradition and modernity, alike.

With rustic oak-lined walls and artfully distressed architectural details, such as aged beams and antique Belgian tiles, the space offers a timeless stage for the owner’s collection of contemporary art.

In the living room, three vintage chairs by Swedish designer Arne Norell are joined by a custom crafted cocktail table by metalsmith David DeSantis.

| Roman Marble Aphrodite from Hixenbaugh Ancient Art

Classically depicted in myriad positions, one of the most common stances found in statues of Aphrodite, or Venus, is ‘crouching.’ Oftentimes, the subject is in the process of bathing or dressing.

Hellenistic sculptors frequently chose to convey the shame or modesty of Aphrodite’s nature, with the viewer positioned as a vo**ur.

In this example from the 2nd – 1st century BC, Aphrodite is leaning down and twisting to the right. It is possible that she was once reaching to unfasten a sandal.

| Brooklyn Townhouse by Allegra Eifler

Specially designed for a Brooklyn-based creative couple, this pre-war townhouse spotlights a diverse art collection while also serving the needs of an active family.

In the second living room, pictured, the original marble fireplace and preserved tin ceiling capture that classic New York charm. To the left of the mantle hangs a painting of the owner’s ancestor— an American Revolutionary War General. A self-portrait by the artist Kate Teale is mirrored on the opposite side.

On the antique American tilt-top table, family photos and art books are arranged next to a lamp created by Humble Matter— perfectly melding functionality and fine arts.

| Engraved Panoramic View of Naples from Daniel Crouch Rare Books

Engraved on four joined sheets with letterpress text is this impressive panoramic view of the city of Naples— as it appeared in 1699. According to legend, Virgil, author of the Aeneid, was instrumental to Naples’ safety and success as a great city.

Known as a great sorcerer, the Roman poet was said to have enchanted a golden egg and placed it in a crystal case; he then hid it inside an iron cage within the foundations of Castel dell’Ovo. As long as the egg remained intact and in place, the great city of Naples would continue to flourish and grow.

The text and print were authored by Alex Hubert Jaillot and published by chez H. Jaillot in Paris.

| San Francisco Apartment by Tucker & Marks

Keeping her client’s ‘couture approach to life’ in mind, interior designer Suzanne Tucker set out to design a space that exemplified the classic decorative arts, while also complimenting a fine collection of contemporary pieces.

Based in San Francisco, the home features a bespoke circular-flow floor plan— each room intentionally connecting with the next, ensuring maximum flexibility for living and entertainment.

In the living room, a Turkish-style ottoman, inset with eighteenth century Italian textiles, sits on an antique Oushak rug. A chinoiserie mirror acts as the focal point and ‘window’ above the marble mantlepiece, while decorative boxes and a ‘handsome set of fire tools’ add character and functionality to the setting.

We’re manifesting warmer temperatures with this humorous Louis XVI thermometer from Galerie Leagé. Finely carved in France and modeled to resemble a small temple, this piece features a group of putti adorning the base.

Flanked by two wrapped columns, the central thermometer is painted and lacquered— comprised of a tubular mercury coil.

From the top (hottest) to the bottom (coldest), the following gradations are annotated:

Senegal
Chickens
Paris 1753
Ordinary Baths
Silk Worms

| Harlem Duplex by Rayman Boozer

With a design philosophy rooted in bold movements, rich colorways, and a spectacular joie de vivre, it’s no wonder that Rayman Boozer, principal of Apartment 48, is a member of the Elle Décor A-List and AD100.

In this Harlem Pre-war duplex, pattern play is on display. In the living room, a vibrant wall covering by Kerrie Brown sets the tone. A sea-foam green sectional from Interior Define adds levity, along with gauzy curtains in shades of blush-pink and lime-green.

The collector’s impressive and eclectic art collection provides inspiration through key pieces. French landscape paintings and antique Chinese pottery add charm and depth throughout.

| Mountain Landscape by Fudo Ritsuzan from Thomsen Gallery

Painted in 1940, this two-panel folding screen is an awe-inspiring mountain landscape by the renowned Japanese painter Fudo Ritsuzan (1886–1975).

Comprised of a gold wash and rich mineral pigments, including an unusual shade of vivid blue, the composition depicts a group of temple or shrine buildings— half-hidden behind a forest of giant cryptomeria trees.

Throughout his long career, Fudo Ritsuzan exhibited extensively in official salons and was award the coveted ‘mukansa’ status— the highest honor bestowed to a craftsman, which marks their creations as no longer requiring evaluation.

| Chelsea Place by Garrow Kedigian

A love letter to hues both bold and brilliant, this Montreal townhouse, designed by Garrow Kedigian, is a veritable feast for the eyes.

In the Dining Room, modern elements blend with traditional in the form of a chrome and glass table from Andrew Martin and a set of Louis XVI-style Marilyn chairs from Global Views. In the Writer’s Room, daybed and mural by artist Rajiv Surendra echo antiquity.

The Sitting Room combines an antique Gustavian sofa, upholstered in vintage raw silk, with contemporary details— a Jalen chandelier from Arteriors and a bespoke red leather nailhead wall trim from Samuel & Sons.
