🌧️ NOR’EASTER SAFETY REMINDER 🌧️

With a rain and wind-driven Nor’easter impacting our area, North Shore Rescue Squad reminds everyone to stay alert, use caution, and be prepared for changing conditions.

Heavy rain and strong winds can lead to flooded roadways, downed trees and power lines, power outages, and hazardous driving conditions.

⚠️ Please remember:

* Never drive through flooded roadways — Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
* Slow down and allow extra following distance when driving.
* Secure outdoor furniture, trash cans, and other loose items.
* Stay away from downed trees and power lines.
* Keep phones and essential devices charged in case of an outage.
* Have flashlights, batteries, water, medications, and other essentials available.
* Monitor local weather alerts and official updates.
* Check on elderly or vulnerable neighbors who may need assistance.

🚑 Please reserve 911 for emergencies. Never approach downed wires—assume they are energized and dangerous.

Stay weather-aware, stay prepared, and please use caution throughout the storm.

A prepared community is a safer community.

🚨 RESPONDER SPOTLIGHT: MOMAR SEMBENE 🚨

This week, we’re proud to shine the spotlight on Momar Sembene, one of the dedicated members of North Shore Rescue Squad! 🚑💙

At just 19 years old, Momar knew he wanted to become an EMT, and he knew North Shore Rescue Squad was where he wanted to start that journey.

What attracted him to North Shore was the genuine feeling of the organization and its members. He wanted to be surrounded by people who were there for the right reasons — to serve their community, help others, and become better lifesavers.

Through his time at North Shore, Momar has gained valuable hands-on experience, learned from our mentors, and continued to grow as an EMT. He credits the welcoming environment and the people around him for helping him along the way.

After more than a year with North Shore, Momar says he has absolutely no regrets about joining and is happy to be part of the squad. He plans to stick around and continue his journey with us for years to come.

And, of course, we can’t forget one of the most important reasons he joined…

He really liked the uniforms. 😂🚑

🚑 35 CALLS. 7 DAYS. AND ANOTHER TOUR LOGGING ON TONIGHT. 🚑

Over the last seven days, the members of North Shore Rescue Squad have responded to a wide variety of calls for service throughout our community.

In just seven days, our volunteers responded to 35 calls for service answering the call day and night when our neighbors needed us.

And the work continues.

Tonight, another North Shore tour will be logging onto the 911 system, ready to respond to whatever the night may bring.

Behind every response are dedicated volunteers giving their time to ensure an ambulance and trained crew are available when the call for help comes in.

To all of our members who have staffed tours, answered calls, and helped keep our community covered over this busy week thank you.

🚑 Busy day at NSRS!

Our crews were out answering the call and serving our community when they were needed most. Days like today are a reminder of the dedication of our volunteers who give their time to respond, help, and keep our neighbors safe.

🇺🇸 September 11 — We Remember 🇺🇸

Today, North Shore Rescue Squad pauses to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the extraordinary courage shown in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

We remember the 2,977 lives taken that day. We honor the firefighters, EMS personnel, police officers, dispatchers, military members, healthcare workers, and countless civilians who ran toward danger to help others.

For those of us who serve in emergency services, September 11 carries a special meaning. It reminds us of the sacrifice that comes with answering the call and of the strength found in service, unity, and compassion.

We remember those who never made it home.
We remember the families who continue to carry their loss.
We remember the responders who became ill or lost their lives in the years that followed.

May we never forget their names, their courage, or their sacrifice.

From all of us at North Shore Rescue Squad — Staten Island, NY, we remember. We honor. We will never forget.

🚑 Responder Spotlight: Captain Vincent Franchi

This week, we’re shining the spotlight on Captain Vincent Franchi, a dedicated member and leader of North Shore Rescue Squad.

Vincent has been a part of North Shore Rescue Squad for many years and has served in leadership positions since 2023. In 2025, Vincent became Captain, taking on the responsibility of leading the squad and helping guide its continued growth.

Throughout his time in leadership, Vincent has remained focused on supporting the membership, improving operations, strengthening training, and making sure North Shore continues to provide the best service possible to the communities we serve.

For Vincent, leadership is about more than holding a title. It’s about being present, taking responsibility, listening to the membership, and doing what is best for the squad and the community.

His commitment to North Shore reflects the importance of having members who are willing to step up, take on responsibility, and help move the organization forward.
