GENYOUth

GENYOUth Welcome to the official page of GENYOUth! GENYOUth is a nationally recognized youth wellness organization with reach and impact. But it’s not nearly enough!
(1)

GENYOUth and its partners have a shared purpose: creating healthier school communities by empowering students and providing the resources for youth to build healthy, high-achieving futures. GENYOUth implements a range of national initiatives including the largest in-school wellness program (Fuel Up to Play 60) in partnership with National Dairy Council and the NFL; an innovative youth social entre

preneurship program (AdVenture Capital); youth and thought leader engagement (Leadership Roundtables, Student Ambassador Summit, Town Halls); and widely circulated stakeholder-targeted publications. Since our inception almost a decade ago, we have provided $100 million in grants and equipment to our nation’s schools. To donate to GENYOUth’s End Student Hunger Fund, go to genyouthnow.org/donate or text MEALS to 52000 to make a one-time $10 donation.

1 in 5 students walks into a classroom carrying the weight of hunger — but it doesn't have to be that way. At GENYOUth, we believe every child deserves the chance to thrive by living well-nourished and physically active lives.

Hope lives in each one of us. And it starts in school — with every meal, every child, every future we choose to invest in.

As our CEO Ann Marie Krautheim reminds us: "They who have hope, have everything."

She's back! 🎉 Kenzie Wyman returns as GENYOUth's 2026 Summer Intern.

Kenzie first engaged with GENYOUth as a member of our National Youth Council, championing youth voice and student wellness. After a standout first summer on our marketing communications team, she's ready to go even further.

A student-athlete at the University of West Florida, Kenzie balances basketball with a double focus in Sports Management and Marketing — and brings that same drive and discipline to everything she does here. This summer, she'll be fueling our communications and marketing efforts while helping to deepen our youth engagement work.

We are thrilled to have Kenzie back for Year two! 💙

When students are seen and heard, it creates positive change in school and in young lives.

Our recent Youth Insights report surveyed 1,500+ students ages 13–18 — and the findings are clear: students experiencing a strong culture of wellness are 3x as likely to be chronically absent compared to those with a strong culture of weakness. One of the biggest drivers? Feeling included and knowing their voices matter.

What does that look like in practice?

Earlier this year, we brought high school culinary students from Los Angeles Unified School District and San Francisco Unified School District together for our first-ever Super Schools Student Culinary Showdown — and gave them real influence over something that affects them every day: school meals. They didn't just compete. They created healthy, innovative, culturally relevant recipes that are now being added to their school menus.

We are proud to celebrate🎉our Super Schools initiative at Iroquois Elementary School, A Community School in Lawrence Park, PA! Thank you to the Iroquois students and officials for welcoming us – and to our incredible partners Wabtec Corporation and American Dairy Association North East for helping make this moment possible.

With the support of these partners, GENYOUth unveiled a new school meal equipment that will expand access to school meals for Iroquois students — part of our Super Schools initiative providing Taste of the Draft nutrition grants and NFL FLAG-In-School kits to 91 Pennsylvania schools in celebration of the recent 91st NFL Draft in Pittsburgh.

Super Schools is increasing access to 13 million school meals and benefiting 50,000 students across the state with more opportunities to eat well and stay active. Because well-nourished, active kids learn better. 🥛🏈

New research from GENYOUth reveals that students in schools with a strong culture of wellness are 2 to 4 times more likely to report positive future expectations.

The difference that a wellness culture makes is striking:
✅ 95% of students plan to graduate high school (vs. 58% in schools with a weak wellness culture)
✅ 92% expect a lot of themselves in the future (vs. 33%)
✅ 91% have high goals and expectations for themselves (vs. 29%)
✅ 83% always try to do better in their schoolwork (vs. 17%)

When students feel nourished, active, respected, and connected, they strive for success and aim higher. A positive wellness culture isn't a "nice to have." It's a “must” for academic and future success.

What do students say they need to show up, engage, and thrive? Today at the 2026 Healthy Kids, Healthy Programs Summit, we heard it straight from a student himself. 🎤

"Present, Engaged, and Thriving: The Power of a Wellness Culture in Schools" brought together GENYOUth’s Laura Hatch, school nurse Heather Nee and GENYOUth National Youth Council member Sam, who highlighted new youth-informed research from GENYOUth through his lived experience.

The research shows that when students feel respected, nourished, active, and connected — they show up.📚 Meaningful student engagement is a key part of the equation. Sam’s story brings this to life, and he shared how he worked with his school nurse and school nutrition department to build student voice into the menu selections. It’s been a win-win. When students have input into decisions that impact them, they are more likely to participate and thrive.

Grateful for a room full of school nutrition professionals, nurses, and wellness coordinators ready to elevate student voice and build school cultures where every student can thrive.

Our new GENYOUth Insights report confirms what youth are telling us: school meals and physical activity aren’t just nice to have — they’re essential to the school day.

🏃 2 in 3 students with strong attendance say physical activity makes them want to come to school each day.
🍽️ 9 in 10 say breakfast and lunch make the whole school day better.
💡 More than half report that eating school breakfast improves their focus, academic performance, and mental well-being.

Engagement starts with showing up. And students show up when we meet their most fundamental needs.

Two major opportunities. One goal: healthier, more active schools — and we're here for it. 🙌

This May, in honor of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, our friends at Action for Healthy Kids are spotlighting two ways school districts can take action RIGHT NOW:

🏈 NFL FLAG In-School PLAY 60 Champions
District applications are due TOMORROW, May 15. This is a powerful program that brings sustainable, structured physical activity to more students — exactly the kind of systemic change we believe in.

🎥 The Movement Imperative — Live Webinar
Tuesday, May 19 | 12 PM ET
Join a national conversation on how schools are making movement a daily priority — and why it matters for student health, engagement, and learning.

At GENYOUth, we know that when students move more, they learn better, feel better, and show up ready to thrive. These opportunities are exactly the kind of action that moves the needle for kids.
