“For Our Children,” a documentary and Creative Capital project by Débora Souza Silva (2021 Creative Capital Awardee), began when the journalist and filmmaker met the mother of Oscar Grant, the 22-year-old fatally shot by police officers in Fruitvale Station in Oakland. Souza Silva (.souza.silva) then learned about , a nationwide network of women whose children were killed by police. “For Our Children” is a powerful documentary that illuminates their work to disrupt the cycle of police brutality in the U.S., following how two Black mothers whose young sons were brutalized by police build a network of support, healing, and political action.
