At Braata Productions, we love celebrating the many ways our artists bring Caribbean stories and creativity to life.

Today, we’re shining a spotlight on Melle Phillips, our Choreographer for the Braata Concert Season, who is adding another exciting title to her name: Children’s Book Author!

Melle is the author of Six Sons, One Stone: An Anansi Tale, a children’s book inspired by the rich tradition of Anansi stories that have been passed down through generations across the Caribbean.

We’re proud to celebrate this milestone and look forward to seeing her storytelling reach even more audiences, young and old.

Today, we’re celebrating one of our own. ❤️

Join us in congratulating Adam Boggs McDonald on earning his Master of Arts in Musical Theatre with Distinction from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

Adam has been such an important part of the Braata family, bringing so much talent, dedication and heart to everything he does. Adam has continued to show up for the Braata Singers and for the stories we tell. We’re incredibly proud to see him reach this milestone and to watch his journey as an artist continue to grow.

This achievement is so well deserved, and we know it’s only the beginning of what’s ahead.

Adam, congratulations! Your Braata family is celebrating you today and always. Here’s to more stages, more stories and many more moments to come. ❤️

Miss Grand Jamaica 2026, Simone Gardner, recently took Jamaican culture to the international stage with her national costume, “One Love,” inspired by Bob Marley, reggae and Jamaica’s musical heritage.

Designed by Kennedy Gasper, the costume incorporates references to Jamaican musical instruments and the colours of our national flag. Its concept speaks to the power of music to communicate unity, peace, justice, freedom and connection values strongly associated with Marley and the global reggae movement.

And while the creativity and symbolism have been celebrated by many, the costume has also raised another conversation:

Are we leaning too heavily on Bob Marley when representing Jamaica to the world?

For some, Marley remains one of our most powerful cultural ambassadors an internationally recognized symbol of Jamaican music, culture and the message of One Love.

For others, Jamaica has so many stories, artists, traditions and cultural icons that it may be time to broaden the picture beyond the familiar Marley imagery.

And perhaps both perspectives can exist at the same time.

So, Braata community, what do YOU think?

Was this a creative and meaningful tribute to Jamaican culture, or are we rinsing Bob Marley a little too much?

Drop your thoughts in the comments. We want to hear your perspective.
