👀 Coming soon to scaffolding near you: Keiji Drysdale’s () Echoes in Time 🕰️✨

This AR-powered mural merges graffiti and technology to tell the story of Lower Manhattan—past, present, and future.

Echoes in Time is an interactive mural that visually narrates the rich history of Lower Manhattan through a fusion of graffiti art and augmented reality (AR). It showcases iconic landmarks and cultural hubs, rendered in a vibrant graffiti style that reflects the dynamic energy of the streets where Keiji first honed his craft.
Through AR, viewers can use their mobile devices to animate the mural, embodying the spirit of Lower Manhattan—a place where history and innovation coexist.

ArtBridge is partnering with the Downtown Alliance () to turn Lower Manhattan’s construction fencing into large-scale art. 6 artists were selected to create artwork that features
Lower Manhattan-specific imagery for installation on scaffolding, sheds and other fencing around Lower Manhattan.

🎨 We are excited to share our completed installations at Adams Houses!

Featuring the work of Bronx-based artists Lola Lovenotes () and El Souls (), the artworks were made in collaboration with NYCHA residents as part of our Bridging the Divide program. These vibrant, layered murals highlight the community of Adams Houses, as well as important cultural movements in Bronx history - hip hop and graffiti.

Devised through community workshops in which residents were guided in creative practices, the resulting imagery reflects neighborhood stories through bold visual language that celebrates local voices.

"A Window in Time" by Lola Lovenotes uses Taino and Adinkra African symbols to highlight the community's African-American population, while the portraits showcase South Bronx residents who were the cultural innovators during the 1960s-1980s. "Adams Story" by El Souls picks up where Lola Lovenotes left off, sharing the cultural history of the South Bronx from the 1990s to the present day, reflecting the diverse community in the neighborhood.

ARTIST HIGHLIGHT: Kunihiko Maehara 🌟

Kunihiko Maehara () is an artist working out of Red Hook whose multi-disciplinary practice includes painting, printmaking, drawing, and photography. Born in Japan, Kuni moved to the United States in 1988 and has shown his work in New York, Los Angeles, and Tokyo. We are delighted to have collaborated with Kuni to transform his piece, “Theorem,” into a large-scale public artwork currently on view in Red Hook’s Buckeye Terminal.

“Theorem” draws from traditional Japanese painting techniques to inform its geometric form and style. The original artwork is a hand-painted scroll measuring 74 x 17 inches, and can be seen in the second slide of this post. It is oriented vertically and made using water-soluble Japanese paints.

To transform the original scroll into a public artwork, the piece was photographed, turned on its side for an horizontal orientation, and digitally manipulated to fit the 100-foot length of the installation site. When viewers encounter “Theorem” at its current massive scale, the meticulously placed colors and shapes elicit physical, emotional, and conceptual responses.

The exhibition at Buckeye Terminal was produced in partnership with ( and ) with support from .

Congratulations Kuni!!

SU-CASA at the Isaacs Center with Gianinna Gutierrez, Isaacs Houses, and El Barrio ArtSpace PS109 (hot hot hot) 🔥🔥🔥

This spring🌸was hot! We had an amazing time partnering with to activate an SU-CASA Program with elders living in East Harlem.

Mult-media artist put together a stellar engagement program and led the elders in art workshops for 2 months with another month for exhibition prep. The elders produced pieces in materials ranging from pastel, to collage, to colored pencils. We were able to display and celebrate their achievements with an exhibition of artworks on two occasions.

The first exhibition took place at the Isaacs Center - community members of all ages from NYCHA Isaacs and Holmes Houses were able to view the exhibition in their community center. The second exhibition took place at the historic in their gallery on 109th street. This exhibition made it possible for residents of the greater East Harlem neighborhood to view the artworks made by community elders. Overall, 30 artworks by 15 artist elders were included in the exhibitions.

Thank you Giannina Gutierrez for always bringing your s***k and enthusiasm to every program you lead. We are so grateful that we had the opportunity to engage our network of teaching artists with our network of NYCHA residents.
