Two composers. Two very different visions of war, mortality, and hope:

On October 29, Voices of Ascension opens its 2026–27 season with Haydn’s Mass in Time of War and Fauré’s Requiem. Haydn’s “Paukenmesse” was written amid the threat of Napoleon’s advancing armies, its insistent timpani and powerful choral writing creating a work charged with urgency. Fauré’s Requiem, written nearly a century later, takes a gentler path—turning toward tenderness, consolation, and light.

Together, these works create an evening that moves from anxiety toward hope.

From the drama of Haydn and the luminous tenderness of Fauré to Renaissance masterworks, Candlelight Christmas, contemporary music, and Bach’s monumental Mass in B Minor, Voices of Ascension’s 2026–27 season offers six very different journeys through the choral tradition. And it all begins October 29 with War & Requiem—our Choral Grand Opening.
