emy has partnered with the Police Athletic League on occasion, as they too agree youth violence is a major issue in LES. Education. Academic test scores for many public schools in New York City have been below average levels. Many of the youth of LES attend some of these under-performing schools. Values. Many youth in Lower East Side do not receive the values taught through parental guidance, due to working single parents and various other reasons. Sports programs are rarely offered, or are unaffordable to the low-income residents of Lower East Side. Additionally, many youth today do not get the same exercise through play and team sports as previous generations. The academy will combat these issues by keeping kids Healthy through physical activity and play, Safe by providing constructive programs to fill their time, and Smart by focusing on positive values, such as team-work, respect, and humility, which will allow them to succeed in the classroom, playing field & in life. By providing an environment where kids can be healthy, stay away from violence, and be educated on positive values, we will create a better community through more educated, well rounded young adults who can lead us into a better tomorrow.
