It’s true… without the work of Woodie King, Jr., as well as other Black theatre giants like Dr. Barbara Ann Teer, we wouldn’t have a Harlem9.

Clinton Turner Davis Clinton Turner Davis has directed Off-Broadway, in regional theatres, and at universities here and abroad. A noted interpreter of August Wilson’s Twentieth Century Cycle, his productions have earned AUDELCO, Drama Desk, and NY Critics Pick honors. He also co-authored Career Paths of African American Directors: Pushing Boundaries (Routledge, 2024).

Harlem9 producers, past and present, joined community members on Monday afternoon to honor Woodie King Jr. at his memorial in NYC’s theatre district at the Barrymore where is currently playing.

A theatre filled with people who carry Woodie and ‘s legacy then descended upon the streets for hours of community.

🖤 ✊🏾

It feels even more meaningful to honor someone who meant so much to all of us, as we will this summer.
