Community Geriatric Care: A Pioneering Model and Case History

A journey into the brutality of disintegrating one's iden-tity, of losing one's independence, which current worldwide healthcare providers struggle to address. The real-life experience of a community-based setting, a Catholic parish in the heart of Manhattan, where the care approach consistently aims to prevent the institutionalization of Alzheimer's and other dementia patients and their social death. Gianni Per-illi, a health sociologist and founder of CareGiverCare, explores how the shared action of a community can transform dementia into an opportunity for love. He combines the rigor of evidence-based healthcare management with the creativity of pioneering cases, where organizational prophecies become case histories, as in this book. Every project, every conversa-tion, every careful choice tells the same story: a deep respect for health's fragility—and a relentless pursuit of making it better.

CareGiverCare is pleased to announce a new fall seminar at St. Thomas More Church
HOW VIOLENCE WORKS
Introduction to René Girard’s Theory
with Dr. John Babak Ebrahimian

René Girard was one of the most influential Catholic thinkers of the 20th and 21st centuries. His work helps us reflect on deep human questions:
• Why do we desire what we desire?
• How does conflict begin?
• Why do people blame or scapegoat others?
• How can faith help us move beyond violence, rivalry, and resentment?
This seminar will introduce Girard’s thought in a clear and accessible way. It will not be overly academic. Dr. Ebrahimian will use literature, the Bible, mythology, and popular culture to help participants understand Girard’s ideas step by step.
Dr. John Babak Ebrahimian studied at Stanford University, where René Girard was his adviser and where he also served as Girard’s teaching assistant. He is the author of How Violence Works: An Introduction to René Girard’s Mimetic Theory.
