APA VOICE: Voting and Organizing to Increase Civic Engagementre canceling tomorrow’s Brooklyn candidate forum for Senate District 17 & Assembly District 49 at Homecrest Community Services in South Brooklyn at 5 PM. All the confirmed candidates, except for Assembly District 49 candidate Joyce Xie, had last-minute scheduling conflicts and chose to not attend in the days leading up to the candidate forum. Some candidates have filmed video interviews, which will be shared digitally on our partners’ respective platforms within the next week.

As a coalition, we have been preparing for this event for months, with over 200 expected attendees, representing nine organizations serving AAPI communities in Brooklyn and the rest of the city. We are deeply disappointed and sorry for the inconvenience. We hope to mobilize our community again soon, with renewed energy for future forums.

In the upcoming weeks, our coalition will continue to promote civic education and engagement among our AAPI communities. We hope future candidates will honor their commitments and prioritize our communities.

If you are interested in being civically engaged in your community, APA VOICE is also hosting phone banking and canvassing sessions to Get Out The Vote. Please feel free to sign up at https://www.mobilize.us/minkwongotv/.
