Friends of BEAT! Weeksville needs your support. If you can, please help them reach their fundraising goals below. As you may recall, we worked with Weeksville in 2015 to create the very special immersive experience "Fertile Grounds". They are a crucial part of the Brooklyn cultural landscape. Let's show our community spirit and put them over the top!

Weeksville Heritage Center needs you, and we need you now. What We Do We are a unique historic house museum located in Crown Heights and our work preserves the history of one of the largest free black communities in pre-Civil War America. For 50 years, we ...

Dear friends of BEAT -

Been awhile....

We have recently revamped our website - BEATBrooklyn.com - to serve as a retrospective on the great work we created across the borough from 2012-2016. Here, you will find some extraordinary images from festival programs (Storyboard P anyone?) & links to all of our media including the video montages from opening night at the Brooklyn Museum, "Crossing Over" & more.

We feel it captures the essence of the magic and joy we created with all of our Brooklyn friends for 5 years!

Lotsa love from me to each and everyone of you! ~

Hi friends -

It's the 2nd Thursday of September, which - for the last 5 years - was BEAT Opening Night. As you might already know, there is no BEAT Festival this year as I (Stephen Shelley) and my wife have moved out west, had a beautiful little girl and are just not in the Brooklyn mix anymore.

Nevertheless, we find ourselves joyfully recalling prior opening nights at the Brooklyn Museum and remember so many wonderful experiences with Brooklyn artists, sponsors, partnerships and spaces. It was a truly amazing ride and we are so grateful to each of you for your participation and support over the years.

To each of you creators out there, we salute you and send you our endless admiration and love!

After five wonderful years, the 2016 BEAT Festival was our final event. I have moved to the west coast, have had a beautiful daughter, and am in a very different place than I was a year ago, much less five (when the festival began). My wife and I decided this year after moving west that …

What can be defined as "modern" dance is, by definition, always moving forward, evolving and changing. It begs the question: what NOW is the current edge of that movement?

Tonight, at Triskelion Arts, we seek to reveal this via the emerging talents of Thea Little & Lucy Kerr (pictured). Curated by LEIMAY, "Brooklyn on the Rim", brings us right to the very edge of what dance and theater are, and can be...
