The recent Meta settlement with 47 state attorneys general represents a critical turning point for youth mental health. With substantial new funding heading to states, there is an unprecedented opportunity to invest in su***de prevention, digital well-being, afterschool programs, and crisis intervention.

JED’s work with schools and communities across the nation – representing 10 million youth – shows that real protection and prevention require action across every level of a young person’s environment. Funding should not just address immediate crises; it must build lasting infrastructure.

We urge state leaders to direct settlement dollars toward building capacity within schools, school districts, youth-serving community-based organizations (CBOs), and municipalities so that states have the chance to create a stronger, more strategic safety net to help prevent su***de and protect the emotional well-being of young people across the nation.

Read JED’s POV here:

Meta’s recent settlement with 47 states comes after years of young people and families speaking out about harms they experienced, and state attorneys general seeking

Breaking the silence and having honest conversations creates a safe space for people to get help. You never know whose life you might save by listening.

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day.

For 25 years, IOAD has brought people together to remember people who have died from overdose, support families and communities affected by loss, and take action to help prevent overdose.

This year's theme, "25 Years On. Still Needed.", reminds us that behind every statistic is a person — someone loved, valued, and missed.

CDC's continued call to action is: Still Needed. Still Acting. Still Saving Lives.

Remember. Support. Prevent.

Join The Kind Mind on Friday, August 14th at 5 PM, for a conversation on what it means to be seen, heard, and found in a world that's always online.

From building community to navigating comparison, cyberbullying, and mental health, hear firsthand perspectives from youth mental health expert Dr. Katie Hurley, DSW, LCSW, Vice President of Community Initiatives at JED Foundation, Maya Days, Broadway, television and film actor, currently starring as Evan's mother, Heidi Hansen in the BST production of DEH and Remi Bader, Content Creator and Mental Health Advocate, as they explore how to talk with kids about what they're encountering online. Together we can build a healthier relationship with social media, and discuss why the themes of Dear Evan Hansen feel so urgently crucial for young people today.

Following the conversation, join fellow attendees in the lobby for cocktails, light bites, and continued conversation until 7 PM.
