We believe that the current model of sending American doctors for short visits to developing nations is not, by itself, a sustainable answer to the myriad health problems facing people in these countries. We aim to change this paradigm by employing a different model in which we work to empower Haitian health professionals and build up the next generation of Haitian doctors, while providing opportu
nities to American doctors and medical students to educate, learn and serve. As we begin, we have chosen to focus on chronic care issues (high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.) since these problems are currently going almost completely unaddressed in many developing countries, like Haiti. Launching our chronic care program:
May 5th, 2011, marked the beginning of our chronic care program and we have enrolled the initial 30 patients with many more to be enrolled by our Haitian counterparts over the coming months. Our model allows us to cost-effectively follow these patients, enabling local Haitian doctors and medical students to provide high-quality care (education, medications, doctor visits, etc.) to adequately control these issues of chronic healthcare. We hope that you will partner with us in this endeavor as we seek to transform the healthcare system in Haiti and reawaken hope in the hearts of those whom have given up on seeing real change in Haiti.
