Since our founding in 1920, the mission of The Diller-Quaile School of Music has been to develop the innate musicality in each individual, inspiring participation for a lifetime. This mission is at the core of the innovative and comprehensive educational programs that we offer at the School, and also in our Community Programs and initiatives that bring the joy of music to individuals throughout Ne
w York City. Diller-Quaile annually welcomes nearly 1,000 children and adults of all ages through its doors for classes, lessons, master classes, concerts, and musical events, and serves an additional 1,000 individuals through its community-based initiatives. The Diller-Quaile School of Music (DQSM) was founded by visionary pianists and pedagogues Angela Diller and Elizabeth Quaile with the belief that the capacity for understanding and creating music exists in everyone. For almost a century, Diller Quaile has offered an environment where music can flourish in all its aspects, enriching the lives of students of all ages, cultural backgrounds, and socioeconomic circumstances. The belief that music is a fundamental part of human life is at the center of our philosophy and mission. We serve a diverse group of individuals spanning all ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, and ethnicities—all who share a love of music and the desire to grow musically. Diller-Quaile has a proud tradition of not only providing music instruction of the highest caliber, but also sharing and preserving music through public concerts, publications, and recordings. Today, DQSM is a thriving community music school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, comprised of the following departments: Early Childhood, Instrumental and Vocal, Adult, Teacher Training, and Community Programs. Throughout the academic year, Rug Concerts, master classes, student recitals, performances by faculty and guest artists, and special community events are offered. DQSM is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Precollegiate Arts Schools, and is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music. In addition, DQSM is a member of the National Guild for Community Arts Education, and is an approved provider of Continuing Teacher and Leader Education by the New York Education Department.
