Dave Douglas’ Alloy kicked off last year’s Festival of New Trumpet Music with a burst of energy—three trumpeters on one stage at a packed The Jazz Gallery on September 5. After seven inspiring days, we’re still buzzing from a program filled with adventurous music: 12 concerts, 22 trumpeters, a special workshop honoring Bill Dixon’s centennial, 3 online performances, 6 venues, and the joy of presenting our award to Olu Dara.

Lee Hogans was another trumpeter who, on the festival’s final night, not only paid tribute to his mentor and teacher William B. Fielder, but also captivated the audience and helped bring the 23rd edition to a wonderful close with his band Pursuance.
