📢 [IMPORTANT] On June 25th, the Rent Guidelines Board (RGB) will decide whether the rents of the more than 2 million New Yorkers living in rent stabilized units will go up.

🚨 RGB held a public hearing last Thursday on June 4th at Jamaica Performing Arts Center (Queens). Representation at the hearing for Jamaica was low, but there are still ways for community members to provide thoughts on rent increases to ensure housing is more affordable. Visit the link above.

Last week, New York City experienced flash flooding due to a severe thunderstorm that resulted in flooded streets, downed trees and powerlines, outages, and damaged infrastructure.

Submit a damage report at: reportdamage.nyc.gov
Request city services at: nyc.gov/311 or call 311.
Call 911 for life-threatening emergencies.

If your home, business, or property was damaged during the recent storm, report damage and request service when safe to do so. Damage reports help NYC assess storm impact and support recovery efforts.

On May 18, 2026 SQREJC met with legislators in Albany to discuss and support BESS legislation S7197B/A6955C (battery storage setback bill). SQREJC is not against green tech infrastructure but wants to ensure safety standards are guaranteed to address the fire/toxic hazards that come with these commercial battery storage sites.

May 20, 2025 - Severe thunderstorms and rain brought extensive flooding to neighborhoods throughout the City including Southeast Queens (SEQ). These images were captured in SEQ and show just how life threatening and damaging flash flooding can be especially to infrastructure like streets and manhole covers.

🚨 Report street flooding or clogged catch basins, you can submit a service request directly to NYC 311. Report non-emergency cave-ins (street collapse) caused by flooding directly to NYC 311. For emergency cave-ins call 911.

✅ Check in on family and neighbors who may be vulnerable during these weather events.

We urge city agencies such as NYC Water and Con Edison to continue to work with communities and towards developing solutions that will protect vulnerable communities when flooding occurs.
