The IATSE together with Theatrical Teamsters Local 817 staged an Unfair Labor Practice strike on Friday against the independent film production “Chloe & Janelle: Freshman Year,” which is shooting in the New York City area and is slated to receive NY and NJ tax credits. The ULP strike was staged because the producer terminated crew for union activity and made threats against a local union officer.

Jimmy Kimmel Live came to Brooklyn last week, and our kin made it happen!

The show was taped at the Brooklyn Academy of Music with crew from IATSE Locals 4, 44, 80, 600, 728, 764, and United Scenic Artists USA 829, among others, bringing their expertise to every aspect of the production. From the stage to the screen, it was a union show through and through.

A round of applause for this amazing crew!

IATSE has secured agreements for the crews of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" and "Heathers" at New World Stages in New York, covering stagehands, wardrobe, makeup artists, and hairstylists on both productions. Even with both shows closing in the coming weeks, these workers won union representation and supplemental payments for the remainder of their runs.

Off-Broadway workers deserve fair wages, benefits, and working conditions, and we will continue that fight!

Voting matters to you. Whether you know it or not, health and safety laws affect you. When we elect public officials, we empower an entire Administration with an agenda and specific policies that impact the health and safety of IATSE members for years to come.

This webinar will discuss what’s happening now to worker health and safety legislation, what’s at stake in the 2026 midterm elections, and what future agendas may bring. Elections have consequences for IATSE workers. This webinar rebroadcast will feature a live Q and A with Jackson Rees, Assistant Director of the IATSE Political and Legislative Department.

IATSE believes the Kennedy Center is using its temporary closure to permanently eliminate union Box Office jobs, and we are fighting back.

Last week, the Center issued new layoff notices claiming there is insufficient Box Office work for current staff. That same week, they announced the Kennedy Center Honors would move to Capital One Arena and confirmed off-site seasons for the National Symphony Orchestra and Fortas Chamber Music Concerts. Work that has always belonged to Local 868 members is being deliberately routed around them.

IATSE and Local 868 are filing new unfair labor practice charges. The Kennedy Center should rescind these layoffs and bargain in good faith. We stand with every affected worker.

A new study released today by IATSE and our fellow entertainment union kin found that the share of major studio production spending on U.S.-based films has dropped significantly over the last 25 years. Right now, thousands of middle-class jobs are at stake.

Congress can change this by passing the bipartisan Motion Picture, Television, and Entertainment Revitalization Act (MPTERA). Tell your representatives to act now:

BREAKING: Apple Studios Visual Effects Workers Secure First IATSE Contract

LOS ANGELES, CA — Visual effects workers at Apple Studios have secured their first collective bargaining agreement with IATSE, winning new standards for wages, health care, retirement benefits, working hours, artificial intelligence, and workplace safety.

The contract establishes minimum rates for every covered title. Annual minimum rate increases will match those negotiated in the IATSE-AMPTP Basic Agreement. Workers also secured minimum-hour guarantees, pay for all hours worked, and overtime protections including holidays and sixth and seventh workdays.

The agreement provides employer-paid Motion Picture Industry health care, pension benefits, and a defined contribution retirement savings plan. Employer contributions to the health and retirement plans are effective for all hours worked since January 1, 2026.

The contract incorporates artificial intelligence protections from the IATSE-AMPTP Basic Agreement. It also establishes daily and weekly turnaround and rest protections matching those provided to editorial crews, meal penalties when lunch breaks are violated, and additional pay for hazardous conditions on set.

The Apple Studios agreement follows first-contract gains secured by visual effects workers at Disney, Marvel, and Avatar. This development also signals the ongoing momentum of VFX professionals organizing for fair wages, sustainable benefits, safer working conditions, and a meaningful voice at work.

A huge win for Script Coordinators and Writers’ Room Assistants! Workers in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut have won union recognition and a first contract with the AMPTP through IATSE Local 161.

These Coordinators and Assistants have been unrepresented on the East Coast for years while their Los Angeles counterparts worked union. That changes now. 30 workers have now won coverage, wages, and conditions in line with their West Coast peers.

Congratulations to the newest members of Local 161!
