No school Friday, March 25th so come by my office(Room 119) anytime to volunteer by helping community members register for the upcoming GO BAG event !!

Due to the excesses snow from Winter Storm Jonas the Youth & Preparedness Council will not meet on January 26th and the 28th. Meetings will resume on February 11th at 6 pm in the Shorefront Y Teen Lounge.

REMINDER to Youth & Preparedness Council Members:
We will be visiting the NYC Emergency Management on Tuesday, January 26th. The bus will be leaving at 5:15 pm (SHARP). We will be returning to SFY by 7:30 pm (traffic permitting). * Make sure you come with a permission slip!!

The following is the upcoming NYCEM schedule.

Meeting 2: NYCEM Personal Preparedness
Date: Thursday January 7th at 6 PM
Presenter: NYCEM Staff
Youth Council members will receive a Ready NY presentation that goes over their own personal preparedness.

Meeting 3: NYCEM Emergency Operation Center (offsite)
Date: Tuesday January 26th at 6 PM
Presenter: NYCEM Staff
Youth Council members will take a tour of NYCEM’s office in Brooklyn and visit the City’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) as well as NYCEM’s Watch Command Center that monitors New York City for emergency activity 24/7.

Meeting 4: Disease Outbreaks
Date: Thursday January 28th at 6 PM
Presenter: CDC & DOHMH
Youth Council members will learn about public health emergencies including disease outbreaks and how they interact with the emergency management structure in NYC. At the end of the meeting they will take part in a table top discussion where they would simulate the City’s response to a large biological event happening in New York City. This session would be accompanied by our partners at NYC Dept. of Health and Mental Hygiene.
