There is a bit of a zeitgeist thing going on with this idea of having (rather than being) a genius. The TED talk from Elizabeth Gilbert & she was recently on Radiolab talking about the same idea. I like it.

In ancient Roman religion, the genius was the individual instance of a general divine nature that is present in every individual person, place or thing.[1]
