The Sharpton’s annual “Essence of Ebony” summer fashion show started in 2006, and is now one of the highest anticipated summer events in Harlem amongst young people. Sharpton Entertainment’s “Flaunting my Expression” fashion show began in 2010 and quickly became the youth highlight of the National Action Network’s annual convention. ended annually with audiences ranging from 500-1500 people from the NYC area. Sharpton Entertainment had their first “My Brothers Keeper” open house forum in Harlem earlier this year surrounding the Zimmerman verdict in the Trayvon Martin trial. This was the first of many forums that is part of their new youth activism campaign. Through these forums and open discussions they hope to create more political understanding, less racial tension, more unity, social responsibility, and a much needed cross generational dialogue between todays leaders and the youth of urban communities. Whether activism or entertainment, Sharpton Entertainment events brings together multitudes of young people, celebrities and community leaders who share the common interests of the arts, entertainment, and providing positive outlets for youth.
