From our performers (who are local or have an uptown connection), to our activity stations (Uptown stories will also be doing writing activities at their tables!) As we prepare for WHINFest, we're reminiscing on our recipe card and composting workshop we hosted back in May, where neighbors were able to come by and make their own recipe cards to include in a WHIN Food Council recipe zine. Additionally, we led demos on home composting. Thank you for our friends at Recirculation, a project of Word Up for hosting us! 🌱

Happy to be hosting at Dyckman Farmhouse Museum our very first ever bilingual variety show! We'll be having raffles, drag, puppetry, folk dance, writing and collage stations, tarot readings, activities, music, and so much more!! And this event is FAMILY FRIENDLY and very much Q***R FRIENDLY! We got a stacked lineup of majority local performers! This event is ticketed as proceeds will go towards our operational costs. Running a grassroots nonprofit is not easy! We have a select amount of tickets for those experiencing financial hardship, so email [email protected] to inquire for those. We're beyond grateful for the love our community has shown us for this event, and this event not only highlights our accomplishment, but also the diversity of things you can do in the Heights/Inwood. From Herban Cura : From September 6th to September 27th, Herban Cura a healing justice herb and ecology school will be hosting a four part New York City Fall Herbalism Immersion series in Washington Heights.

Facilitated by Herban Cura Co-Founder Antonia Estela Pérez, participants in this introductory bioregional herbalism program will have the opportunity to learn basic plant identification, medicine making skills, and ecological frameworks in support of community care and climate resiliency.

Antonia grew up in Washington Heights, and giving back to their community is a North Star with this work. We believe in nourishing political education through plants, and hope to connect as many folks as possible to this incredible resource.

This year, our FSD (Farm Share Distribution) Program is operating through DWDC's Nuevo Amancer support program. Nuevo Amancer is a comprehensive domestic violence (DV) program created to empower latinas who are intimate partner violence (IPV) survivors to regain control of their lives. Those who seek support from this program get farm fresh produce sourced in New York State (via ) at no cost through the FSD program. We at WHIN Food Council are so honored to be supporting these women and to continue a legacy of community support with the Dominican Women's Development Center.

Did y'all know it's not complicated to make your own seasoning blends? We showed neighbors the power of the mortero to make their own WHIN blend of sazon. There's power in what we make!
