The Mostly Modern Festival (MMF) is a summer festival that celebrates the music of our time. The focus of the festival is "mostly modern": music by living composers from around the world, with occasional works from the standard repertoire. There will be four concerts a week, featuring world class ensembles, including the American Modern Orchestra, American Modern Ensemble, and other guest ensembl
es. The festival is ideally located in beautiful Saratoga Springs, NY, a world-renowned destination with an award-winning downtown. New York, Boston, Montreal and Philadelphia are all within a three-hour drive. The festival takes place at Skidmore College and all the concerts are held at the Arthur Zankel Music Center. The festival hosts the Mostly Modern Festival Institute, a three-week intensive for performers, conductors, and composers. Musicians who are accepted into this prestigious program will have access to private instruction and performances with the world's finest musicians. It encompasses more than 100 students, 30 faculty, orchestra, choir, chamber music, masterclasses, lectures, and more. Along with private instruction, students rehearse and perform modern repertoire side-by-side with principal players from New York City and beyond. Orchestras perform weekly and conductors vary by week, and are among the top in the field. Composers and conductors receive archival quality audio and links to 4 camera-shot videos of their performances posted to the MMF YouTube channel, all recorded in the acoustically stunning Arthur Zankel Music Center. Participants in all programs attend performances, master classes, lectures, and panels. As part of the MMF community, participants have opportunities to make connections that will last a lifetime. Mostly Modern Festival is open to musicians 18 and older, and welcomes musicians at all stages of their career.
