Central Park, Winter by William James Glackens (ca. 1905)

NYC woke up this morning to the first significant snowfall of the year! ❄️ The above painting, on exhibition at the MET, depicts a snowy day in Central Park.

What has changed from when this was painted until now? What do you notice is the same as today and what is different?
What are some more questions you would ask kids if this piece was part of a tour?

Beautiful friday night at the MET! Thank you to everyone who came ❤️

Please join us for the opening reception of Autumn Knight's gallery installation, 𝘕𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 #26: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘕𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘴 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨, at the Wallach Art Gallery on Thursday, Feb 2nd. We will be going in two groups leaving from Barnard gates to walk over to Wallach (615 W 129th St). The first group will leave at 5:30 PM and the second group will leave at 6:30 PM (to accommodate as many schedules as we can). The gallery opening is from 6 - 8 PM! Please RSVP using the link in our bio so we know who will be joining us!

From the Wallach Art Gallery's site: "This solo exhibition—referencing Jenny Odell’s 2019 book, How to Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy—hovers between the exploration of and reflection on the Italian phrase, dolce far niente or the sweetness of doing nothing. An experimental and multi-disciplinary project, Knight’s installations throughout the gallery include new videos accompanied by wallpaper derived from the artist’s drawings, a series of polaroids with images of the artist's performances, object compositions and digital drawings, as well as a rotating platform and a wall of lottery tickets."

From Knight's website: "Autumn Knight is an interdisciplinary artist working with performance, installation, video and text. She has served as visiting artist at UC Berkeley, Princeton University and Bard College. Her performance work, WALL is the first live performance work entered into the permanent collection of the Studio Museum in Harlem."

🟦🟨🟥Artist spotlight on Piet Mondrian🟥🟨🟦

Mondrian is one of the most well known Dutch artists of the 20th century. He is best known for his abstract paintings made from squares and rectangles, which he painted without using straightedges to draw the lines! How amazing is that?!
