From Dawn: “We work in an industry that rewards endurance. But there are some things endurance can’t fix.
I’m reaching out to my union community for support.
Like many of you, I’ve built a career in an environment where the expectation is simple: show up, push through, don’t break. I’ve always been able to do that.
What I’m facing now isn’t something you can push through alone.
I have Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) — a rare autoimmune disease that attacks the bile ducts of the liver. It is not self-induced or related to alcohol or substance use. The only known cure is liver transplant. This is where I am now in my disease.
I am a universal donor. But in a cruel twist of fate, I can only receive from other type O donors. This significantly limits matches due to high demand. Which means a longer time on the transplant waitlist when time is of the essence.
Living liver donation is possible because the liver regenerates. Donors go through a thorough, safety-first screening process.
If you are:
-Blood type O
-In good health between the ages of 21-65
-Open to learning more
Please consider taking the first step, by tapping the link in 798’s bio or visiting the NYU Langone website.
If donating isn’t for you, sharing this within your networks can help it reach the right person.
Thank you for reading and for showing up for one another — on and off set.”
