They travel to areas that have been hit hard by the HIV/AIDS epidemic to work with the local youths. artsINSIDEOUT was founded by seven Juilliard students and four working professionals who have in some way been personally affected by HIV/AIDS. artsINSIDEOUT’s mission is to travel to areas of the globe that have been hit hard by the AIDS epidemic and to connect with young people who have been simi
larly impacted by the epidemic. For two weeks we will be working with 45-65 students in South Africa who are HIV+ or have been orphaned because of the AIDS epidemic. Through acting, singing, dancing and storytelling techniques Inside/Out strives to inspire these students to unleash their creative energy, empowering them to communicate their own experiences. Through a shared connection of this marginalizing disease, we hope to initiate, for ourselves as well as the students, a process of healing. With the building of confidence, community, creativity and consciousness we will reach our ultimate goal- health, inside and out.
