Calling out to Mailman students! We are looking for applicants for our group's e-board on campus! We have headed this club for the last year and are looking for an excited groups of first-years (or PhDs) to carry on the torch. This is a great club for those of you interested in One Health, program planning, and professional development (also great leadership experience for a resume). We have cultivated relationships with institutions in the NYC area, including the Bronx Zoo, which we visit every semester. In spring 2019 we had a behind the scenes tour of their Wildlife Center and Molecular Biology lab. The deadline to apply is Friday, November 22nd, and the link is below!

Interested in planning One Health events at Mailman? Fill out the application below and list position preferences at the end.

As if one event on genetics wasn't enough fun for you, the American Museum of Natural History is hosting a special panel presentation, "Transforming Medicine Through Comparative Genomics", held Monday, October 28th from 6:30-8pm. Speakers include a population geneticist, genomic medicine researcher (Columbia), evolutionary biologist and museum curator, and neurogeneticist (Columbia), with a science journalist from the New York Times acting as moderator. The panel will discuss human and wildlife genomes, evolutionary adaptation of disease resistance and adaption, and the latest technologies being employed to study these questions. Although admission isn't free, students receive a discounted price of $13.50. You can buy tickets at the official event website below.

Hello SOH! Every year One Health Day is celebrated across the globe, and New York City is no stranger to hosting a variety of events throughout the city. We have just been contacted by an events coordinator from the Animal Medical Center, a non-profit veterinary hospital on Manhattan's upper east side. They are hosting a One Health focused event on November 4th from 6:30-8:00pm, entitled "One Health Day: The Impact of DNA Testing on You, Your Pet, and Your World". They're going to have speakers from the medical, veterinary, and environmental sciences, including a genetic counselor from CUMC, Priyanka Ahimaz (MS, CGC). Please reach out to our eboard via direct message on this group if you're interested in attending (it's free!) or shoot us a message through our Engage page so we can send a group together. Make sure to register yourself via this link:
