Global Arts Corps By inviting artists from opposite sides of civil, religious, and racial conflict to create theatrica

From Rwanda to Kosovo, Cambodia to the North of Ireland, Global Arts Corps has used the transformative power of theatre to bring together people from opposite sides of violent conflict, unrest and war in 17 countries on 4 continents, reaching over 90,000 audience members, and facilitating reconciliation workshops for over 11,000 participants. We are an international community of professional artis

ts who use theatre as a catalyst for dialogue, as a way to shift perspectives, and as a means through which to bring about understanding, tolerance and empathy. Our goal is to become a multi-lingual, multi-cultural resource for conflict resolution and reconciliation in conflict zones across the globe.

*The Journey Back to Now* follows nineteen young performers reclaiming stories their families were once too afraid to tell. Their courage reminds us that remembering isn’t just looking back — it’s moving forward.

Over the last eighteen months, GAC has been hard at work running an international pilot project entitled RadioKind. In an increasingly turbulent and uncertain world, we asked the question, “What if children (aged 6 to 12) could talk to other children around the world — across language, across culture, across borders?”

We ran workshops in five unique locations previously affected by war, poverty, or isolation. Using the same ensemble training techniques we utilize with adult actors, we helped kids create stories, songs, and poems that travelled to other kids around the world. Stripping away the visual, we focused purely on audio —training kids to prioritize listening before judgment sets in. Audio demands active engagement and imagination, promoting the power and depth of true storytelling.

What we discovered blew us away. Kids learn easily and organically from other kids, and their stories create bridges that fly under the political radar, demonstrating a powerful common humanity.

Global Arts Corps is currently looking for ways to expand RadioKind in the United States and beyond.

It is with a huge sadness that we share the news that our friend and partner, Xavier Ricard Lanata, has left us at age 48 on September 5th after a long and heroic battle with a vicious brain tumor. In a hundred different ways, until his final day he continued to prod, probe, and help our work as he shared his revolutionary and surprisingly theatrical thoughts on what is happening to the world through the prism of a powerful vision of ecology. Read more about Xavier in the link in our bio. Rest in power, dear Xavier.
