Another Liberation Camp for the books! 🎉

After an amazing summer of developing new work, on August 6th our 2026 campers shared their final presentation, a group piece on censorship, freedom, time, and motion.

The OG AI? “Your Hands Are The Road’s” Phoenix gets some real-life Ancestor Intelligence from William Dorsey Swann, 19th-century activist and America’s first drag queen! 👸🏾

This July, we brought “The Past Is Always Present” to Louisville, Kentucky! Working with local youth and Indigenous consultant Cheyenne Fox Tree, HOTM and History UnErased led four days of research, song and scene composition, and storytelling to further develop “Your Hands Are The Road,” our new musical spotlighting LGBTQ+ tales from America’s past.

Through our PiAP residencies, we’re bringing Q***r history to students nationwide, and empowering LGBTQ+ youth to share these stories with future generations. How’s *that* for AI realness?

“It felt very real at times…and the topics discussed are really important for students and young adults to learn about.”-- teen focus group participants, “Celebratio Vitae.”

On July 28th, we presented “Celebratio Vitae,” a new educational play about child abuse and neglect prevention, to our first NYC pilot audience!

As the show takes form, workshop sharings and focus groups help us refine and strengthen it for touring and distribution. After the show, viewers shared their thoughts on the play’s themes, as well as ideas on age-appropriateness, supplementary resources, and support strategies for educators, peers, and community leaders.

First observed in 2012, International Non-Binary People's Day (July 14) is a global moment to celebrate individuals whose gender falls outside the male-female binary, and to raise awareness of the unique social and legal challenges the community faces.

From our 2013 storytelling production “TRANSformation,” which showcased the true accounts of gender-expansive youth and families, to our new LGBTQ+ musical-in-development “Your Hands Are The Road,” we’re proud to reflect this diversity on our stages, and honor the presence and contributions of nonbinary people throughout history.

We're still accepting applications for our "Your Hands Are The Road" student residency! Learn more and submit by July 13th!

LGBTQ+ and allied youth ages 13 to 23 are invited to help shape a new original musical about q***r American history. Houses on the Moon Theater Company and History UnErased are hosting a four-day creative residency at ACT Louisville from July 20 to 23, noon to 3 p.m. each day, with a modest stipend for participants. No extensive performance experience is required, just curiosity about how q***r history connects to your own life. Applications close July 13. History UnErased unerased & Houses on the Moon Theater Company are seeking Louisville, KY-based youth aged 13-23 to take part in a 4-day developmental residency for “Your Hands Are The Road,” an original musical about LGBTQ+ stories from America’s past.
