This Fall’s Rough Draft Festival features invited artists sharing works in progress through performances and conversations with participating artists. Audiences are invited into the creative process, gaining insight into how new work evolves through experimentation, revision, and collaboration.

Thanks to all who joined us for “HOTM: The Stories” on Sept 28th! As our 25th Season continues, we’re proud to honor the stories, and people, that inspire us across the years.

We also presented the 2026 Mauricio Leyton Award to Qween Jean and Black Trans Liberation Kitchen, for their commitment to the wellness and solidarity of LGBTQ+ New Yorkers.

“HOTM: The Stories” will include live music by Latin Grammy-nominated guitarist and singer-songwriter Juancho Herrera Rey!

With five albums under his name, Juancho has carved out a singular path in NYC’s Latin music scene, sharing a highly personal synthesis of jazz and South American sounds and collaborating with the era’s definitive voices in jazz and world music. He has also performed on Broadway as part of the Tony and Grammy-winning Buena Vista Musical.

A collaborator on 2022’s “SHARED SENTENCES,” Zudaydah Seis Rivera was 4 years old when she first visited her father in a maximum security prison. Years later, helping her son deal with his father’s imprisonment, she must face these memories as she strives for a better future.

One of our original “gUN COUNTRY” storytellers, we’re thrilled to have Brenda Currin back for “HOTM: The Stories!”

An OBIE Award winner, Brenda has collaborated with Houses on the Moon since 2011. She is currently working on an epic interpretation of Gertrude Stein’s play “Listen to Me.” Set in a field with 4 dressage horses and riders, the play will star Kathleen Turner as Gertrude Stein, and a black-wigged Brenda as Alice B. Toklas!

Brenda will share her piece “I Did Not Kill Brian” as part of “HOTM: The Stories,” a night of tales from our 25-year history.

In “Double Dutch,” HOTM artist Cristina Hernandez recalls her childhood in the South Bronx, and the role of street violence in her early life.
