Celebrate Juneteenth through the art of braiding!
Join us at Muhlenberg Library on June 17 from 3-5 PM for an intensive, two-hour masterclass that connects the artistry of hair braiding directly to the story of freedom.
This compressed, high-energy workshop guides participants through the entire lifecycle of the craft. We will journey from the cultural roots and historical maps woven into cornrows during the struggle for emancipation, into the vital mechanics of scalp care and precise sectioning. From there, you will unlock your creative expression through foundational cornrow patterns before concluding with a celebration of braiding as a form of community care and collective resilience. Leave with a profound appreciation for this living art form and the practical skills to keep the tradition thriving.

🚨NEW CHILDREN'S PROGRAM!🚨
We are so excited to announce that the R.E.A.D. (Reading Education Assistance Dogs) Program is coming to Muhlenberg Library! Here are just some of the proven benefits of allowing your child to read to a therapy dog:
🐾Lowers their stress and anxiety levels
🐾Helps them overcome fear of reading out loud
🐾Teaches them compassion and humane treatment of animals
🐾Inspires and motivates them
🐾Lets them have FUN!
This program is for children ages 5-12 who are able to read on their own. Registration is in-person and will open one hour before the start of the program. Matilda hopes to see you on Thursdays this June at 3:30PM!
