#March Against Revenge P**n
The March Against Revenge P**n is an internationally-recognized digital advocacy organization dedicated to combating the abhorrent practice of revenge p**n and image abuse through protest marches, federal lobbying, and victim support services. MARP was founded in 2016 by Leah Juliett, an LGBTQ+ grassroots activist who was victimized by revenge p**n as a young teenager.
Having studied political science and civil rights as an undergraduate student, Leah realized that social justice movements are most successful when empowered people take to the streets to vocalize their anger. After realizing that revenge p**n was not a federal crime, Leah founded MARP as a way for victims to publicly lobby for federal legislation. Leah believed that whether 1 or 1,000 people came to march, the spectacle would make a significant difference in the lives of victims worldwide.
Leah organized the first March Against Revenge P**n across the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City on April 1, 2017. The march was documented by CNN and made international headlines. 6 months later, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio passed comprehensive city-wide legislation criminalizing revenge p**n. This victory was due to the tremendous efforts of many grassroots activists like lawyer Carrie Goldberg and the Cyber Civil Rights Initiative (we are proud to be one of many!).
After the success of the first march, The March Against Revenge P**n became established as an organization dedicated to combatting image abuse. Leah spoke at colleges, community centers, and legislative buildings about the importance of legislation criminalizing revenge p**n. In 2018, Leah worked with the Sentencing Commission of the State of Connecticut to amend Connecticut’s current revenge p**n law.
