Today, we honor Juneteenth - a day that commemorates June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
Juneteenth is both a celebration of freedom and a reminder of the ongoing work to build a more just and equitable future. It is a time to recognize the strength, resilience, achievements, and lasting contributions of Black communities throughout history and today.
At East Side House, we remain committed to creating opportunities, expanding access, and building stronger communities where everyone has the chance to thrive.
