I am working on my NYC Faces in Motion, an interdisciplinary project expanding upon my watercolor portrait series, NYC Faces. These larger-than-life paintings capture subway riders — strangers of all backgrounds who share the public space. I chose a bright color palette. I expanded the series from the train to other venues and images, including bridges and bicycles, iconic symbols of living together, sharing the public space. This body of work transcends and continues to grow in different forms and multimedia. The new multi-sensory art series transforms the original paintings into an immersive AR experience. Accompanying the paintings are hand drawn pastels on New York Times newsprint that highlight objects carried by subway riders; Environmental sounds of raindrops on nylon, music through earbuds, and pages turning, are linked by QR codes for viewers to see videos on my YouTube, /shorts and invite comments.

Check out work by Janet Bruesselback at 43-01 21st Street, LIC NY
Studio 122a
May 16 & 17, 12pm -6pm

Bruesselbach uses figurative oil painting toward speculative realism, melding human intimacy with radical relationships to technology. The artist’s imaginative experiment seeks cyborg feminism, representing embodied subjects, captured during conversational live poses, within non-representational, generative spaces. Its influences manifest as emphatic lucidity and pulp surrealistic excess moderated with pragmatic humor. Movements evade dominant narratives, aiming to celebrate q***r humans and q***rer concepts with diverse community engagement. Compositions often deliberately challenge expectations of spatial orientation, setting, consistency, and aesthetic values, driven by sensual exuberance.
