Aja-Monet made her Carnegie Hall debut in an unforgettable, sold-out concert! The Brooklyn-born surrealist blues poet, vocalist, and composer—critically acclaimed for her powerful linguistic gifts and celebrated for her community organizing and insight—performed songs from her upcoming album, “the color of rain.”

Joined by Melanie Charles on flute and vocals, Brian Hargrove on keyboard, Micah Collier on bass, and Austin Williamson on drums, aja monet blended jazz, soul, hip-hop, R&B, and more, while reminding audiences that poetry predates even the blueprints of such genres. 📷: Lawrence Sumulong

Did you know that Carnegie Hall’s Lullaby Project pairs parents and caregivers with professional artists to create personal lullabies for their babies?

Through a partnership with Northwell’s Lenox Hill Hospital, nearly 80 participants have written songs for their little loved ones in the NICU over the past two years. This creative process can help support parental health, aid in childhood development, and strengthen the bond between parent and child.

Special thanks to Northwell Health, Carnegie Hall’s Official Health Care Partner.

We remember saxophonist Sonny Rollins, a monumental figure in the world of jazz whose career spanned more than 60 years. He made his Carnegie Hall debut in 1957 as part of a “Thanksgiving Jazz” concert that featured a stunning lineup, including Billie Holiday, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, and the Ray Charles Orchestra, among others.

Rollins’s 18th and final Carnegie Hall appearance in 2007 marked the 50th anniversary of that debut. For the performance, he was joined by drummer Roy Haynes, which The New York Times noted was the first time the two had appeared together since 1958. “The greatest living tenor saxophone player, teamed again with arguably the greatest living drummer—now that's historic.”

It was an unforgettable gala evening at Waldorf Astoria New York! The event raised funds to support Carnegie Hall’s artistic, education, and social impact programs—thank you to everyone who joined us! Special thanks to our Gala Lead Chair, Elizabeth Segerstrom.

The evening included countless special moments; more than 120 alumni from across Carnegie Hall’s national youth ensembles and Ensemble Connect gathered to surprise Executive and Artistic Director Clive Gillinson, celebrating his 20th anniversary in the role and his lasting impact on generations of young musicians.

To mark the launch and unveiling of the Carnegie Hall Limited Edition piano—created by Steinway & Sons in collaboration with Carnegie Hall—Lang Lang - 郎朗 delighted guests with a brief performance, bringing the instrument to life for the very first time.

Yannick Nezet-Seguin shared a special letter to Gillinson from composer-conductor John Williams, whose relationship began in 1977 when Gillinson—a cellist in the London Symphony Orchestra at the time—recorded the soundtrack to the first “Star Wars” film. In the letter, Williams reflected on Gillinson’s ability to bring people together through music and his breadth of impact on young musicians. 📷: Chris Lee Photographer, Julie Skarratt, and BFA
